If someone asks why there are Christmas lights all over the floor I will direct you to Posthumous who seems to want a "story" to every picture. How those lights got there? That's a story... ;P

Thanks to everybody for the wonderful comments. The idea came to me about four hours before rollover and I got the shot in with about two hours to spare. The picture would have made my profile page up until late last night. Too bad it just missed it!

Great shot! This photo looks deceptively candid, but I'm sure there was some playing around with the lights to get it just right!

Dear Laine...

I hope the magic Santa brought you was worth the wait! Christmas isn't just about receiving presents, but giving them too! I'm happy to see you gave your Daddy a BIG SMILE and a happy heart with this blue ribbon (A sure way to stay on Santa's "Nice" list!) WAY TO GO!

The best stories are always the ones with the happy endings...;-)

Happy New Year and Warmest Wishes to you and your family!

~Mae~

I love this photo and I would love to know what you're setting were for your camera? Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO?

Actually, I was wondering more about where did all the furniture go??? then it lead me to the story behind the light on the floor, you see, for that girl this is the last Christmas in her house where she grow up, her parents are moving out after two days, so she spread the lights on the floor so that the room wouldn't feel so empty :(

really sad story but a great photo that tells it all ;)

To me the lights on the floor ARE the story (and they're not too bright). I didn't really get the chimney watching part until later mostly because I was mesmerized by the sea of lights. A nice depiction of a moment's tranquility in what has become a hectic time of year.

This child clearly has had a bad experience with a mall Santa. She wants to see him but is making sure he doesn't get past her light trap.

Congrats on a beautiful image, Jason! :)

would that get him a bluer ribbon? Turqoise, maybe?

Great photo. An easy pick for blue, especially given the season. Actually, when I first saw this it reminded me of Poltergeist. I suppose I'm with Don on this thinking it's a little creepy.

This is my pick for the blue. Great creativity! Love the sepia tones too. Just an awesome photograph! I can see some people may have wanted to see the full tree, but not a big enough deal to mark it dow for. I wonder how the photo would have looked if you lowered your angle somewhat more and had the little girl a little off-center. Great work!

A beautiful photo. It looks to staged though, perhaps a sofa or normal house hold items along the side may have given it a less staged look

Magical. Looks like front page material to me. Coming back to enjoy this fabulous image. I adore the sea of stars she sits upon, and the Star of David on the Xmas tree. Talk about multi-cultural :-)

My pick for the blue.
