This road lies at the centre of the University district in Pittsburgh - I took a number of shots here but liked this one the best.

Post challenge:

Wow - A yellow and a posthumous red - amazing!

I was similarly amazed when the score started coming in on this - I had it pegged for a 5.4. The funny thing is, the last time I submitted an image from Pittsburgh that surprised me with a ribbon too! I asked the lady on reception at the hotel which street would be classed as the 'main street' of the area and this is where she sent me. I found it to be characterised by heavy pedestrian traffic so getting some walking in the image was important. Overall, the scene was a little dull but the articulated screen on the nifty Canon G11 opened up some new possibilities and added some much needed interest.

Thanks for the votes and comments.

One I don't recall visiting. Love the long shadows; however, the rising body in the form of a shadow commands the image.

Yikes. I was so convinced this was bvy that all my comments were geared to that - here and in the posthumous thread. - Not until I read your afternotes and I wondered why you needed to ask at "the hotel" .....

I love this! The ground level perspective is perfect and it frames the rest of the shot well. The b/w treatment gives it a bit of an old fashioned look, in spite of the modern elements. Oh, and there is a bicycle in the photo. You are getting down to the level I like to shoot at. I'll bet the ground was cold that day.

When you first start learning about photography they always tell you to find a different angle or viewpoint to make your picture stand out. Something as basic as that has really given your picture a different feel in this challenge. It's amazing that so many have either forgotten or just haven't bothered - good luck!
