Super placement of the figure. Just love the pinkie in the air!!!

Wow, I have a photo almost exactly like this..really..almost to the T. Except the little girl in my shot has her palm up and a spittle bubble in her mouth. Wieeeeeeeerrrrrrdddddddd. I'm not nearly as unique as I thought I was!!!! I think this is great but I'm also biased ;-)

Thanks for all of the votes. This shot was not posed. She was not cooperative. I had to shoot and shoot and shoot, and get lucky.

I'm sure it's been said before and I'll say it again: beautiful baby! Nice clarity. How did you get her to raise her pinkie just so? 8

nice shot, beautiful baby!! 8

A nice portrait...in the context of this challenge I want her hand/pinkie to be the focus -- I might have tried to draw attention to it by calling the photo "Etiquette Lesson" or putting a tiny (doll's?) teacup in her hand. Then let her arm lead to her wonderful eyes and expression as the "positive" element.

I am not usually a fan of baby shots at all, nor do I usually mark them highly, so this is an exception for me.
The shapes here are just fantastic. The angle of her head, and the way her arm pushes into the negative space are exactly right. Makes for a great composition. The highlights in her eyes are great and you've caught her hint of a smile so well. There's a little too much blow out in the highlights of her skin, but not massively so.
Great shot!

Fantastic - great contrast with the background - excellent expression and framing. Only issue is it seems a bit soft focused on the eyes - maybe worth experiementing with setting the focus on the eyes and reframing, if you don't already do that, or maybe different sharpening settings 10 - Gordon

What a cutie! I like how she's placed in the frame...my eye starts at her face and travels right up to her little pinkie. 8 kathleenm

You have captured an adorable baby in a pose balanced between awkward and graceful. Something about the extended pinky adds interest to me, suggesting future sophistication (the way some people drink wine) and future language (lettering in Sign). At first, I wanted the background to be stark black, but the hints of velvet-highlight are ultimately okay with me. They are a little like the lines a cartoonist draws around a subject to suggest movement. The negative space in this case swirls my eye around the hand, then tosses me back to the rewarding image of such a cutie. I would have preferred more contrast in the baby, but you caught a wonderful expression. 8

Beautiful pic...wish i had one of my son like this! I love everything about it...priceless expression...looks like she's saying 'i've got you wrapped around my little pinky!' 9 Lisa

Great shot, great contrast. Wish there was a bit more 'subtle' contrast on the negative space so that it doesn't look so 'black'. I think that would help tell the story of where this baby is. Focus seems a tad soft...but I like it. 7 -zadore

Hey Zeissman, Nice picture. She is adorable. 10

I like this shot. I think the "negative space" on the right does a good job of focusing the eyes on the childs face. What i really like though, is how the frame looks like it is tilting her head for her. Does that make sense. Like she is pushed all the way against the edge. You captured a great expression, as well. Sorry if you get grief for "kid pics" -- I like this one. karmat

At first I thought a 5, just another gobbler picture....... but the arm extended to the right into the dark (your negative space) with the little finger pointing up is a unique expression captured. Seven.

EXCELLENT framing and lovely contrasts. Looks a little over sharpened on the bottom of her arm - I see a white fringe. Overall, though, superb. 9 - floyd

Normally I don't like baby photos because someone elses baby is not nearly as appealing to me as they are to the photographer but this shot is perfection. The b/w was a excellent choice. The composition is fantastic, as is the lighting. It would have been a 10 but the light around the arm and torso edges are abit of a let down. 9-Martin

cute but I don't like the top of her head being cropped off

When I first look at this photo my eyes are drawn to the baby's eyes. Then the extended arm takes me to the hand. I love the way the little pinky finger is pointing into the black void of space - definetely appeals to me the one!!

Are you that guy that is all nicey nice on the forums now? I liked the old sarcastic you better. Nice job on the photo, I'm guessing top ten.

Cute baby, you should have put down her pinky and raised her thumb in a thumbs up. I like it she's cute. 6

there's no thought this is a very nice photo but been stagged keeps it from getting a higher vote from me. very good never the less.

Besides being a very cute baby, this is good use of negative space Her hand is lovely on the black and the angle of her head and body bend in an interesting way. 8

Great kiddo.
09/16/2002 04:06:00 PM
This is quite nice... The composition is excellent and i particularly like the crop you chose on this photo... The dark background and the position of the subject create a nice 'negative' space in the image. The only critique I have is the uneven catch light in the child's eyes. Catch lighting is not easy all the time, but this is very close... great work :) = 9 - jmsetzler

Good neg spc, and I really like your composition (or hers!). Good lighting and focus. It looks like there is a little artifacting along the right edges of her body. She sure is a cooperative model ;-) LOVE the b&w. Nice work. lhall-7

Nice photo, cute kid BUT I have seen something VERY similar before. If you submitted what I have seen earlier, how about something different? If I am mistaken, I apologise. You don't have to agree with me. I just feel I point out the above because I am marking this nice photo down a LITTLE because of this.

Up: Very sharp... Good lighting. Excellent pose of your subject. Down: The crop does not appeal to me. I can't explain why. Good marks, overall, though.

normally I don't seem to like photos with kids in them (I think it is because it is too obvious of a prop), but this one is very good. nice job. cmcvety

Very adorable, but you aren't supposed to let everyone know which pic is yours! *grin* She looks just like you! I think I woulda left a little more space on the left side instead of cropping her cheek. ~indigo997

that is ONE CUTE KID
09/16/2002 12:25:00 AM
beautiful shot. wonderful example of neg space. my only suggestion would be to maybe have hannah's whole head in the frame. just over a little bit more from where it is. still a magnificant shot. great work. 10 goodtimecharlee
