This has an old timey feel to it. The look in her eyes seems almost too severe. Like the colored part is too far off to the right. I know she's looking at the bubble, but maybe move slightly to the right so you were seeing her more straight on. Just a thought. Overall, I like the color and concept alot.

Shame this was used already in a challenge, as it would have been my absolute first choice for the Best of 2004 Challenge had it been mine.

I've commented on this photo. One of the best in the challenge.
Now, because of the results, I get to comment on DPC voting lately.
In a nutshell...it's gone south the last few challenges. This image is proof. Top 3 at least, top ten for sure.
What are people looking at?
Sher...it is simply gorgeous.

I am astonished that this isn't in the top 3, or at least in the top 10 for God's sakes. A beautiful image that deserves much recognition. Way to go girl, whether or not the voters agree. :o)

Sher, I will gladly trade places with you in this challenge - FOR REAL!

Yours was by FAR better than mine and should have been in the top 3.
One of the better images to cross DPC that I have seen.

Congrats on your ribbon. I can see it, hope you can too.

You know how I feel about this photo. I think you deserved a top 3.. and a top 5 in the VERY least.

Absolutely robbed, and I'm kind of ticked off about it too. :)

However it came out though, you can't take away that this is one of the better photographs to ever hit DPC Sher.. It's timeless and classic.

What a cutie... I'm curious about the lighting and the tone of the picture. A high ISO? The lack of blur with her head is understandable, as she's following the bubble with her eyes... something about that makes me smile.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
10/07/2004 12:59:51 AM
Very cute! It's almost as if she's distracted by the single bubble just enough to lose concentration on the task at hand (making more bubbles). I also see noise along with your soft focus. 6

An absoute priceless moment captured here. The angle of the eyes is prefect!
The "texture" of the shot works well, giving it an added character.

wonderful capture of expression and including the bubble makes this even better. Might be a little over cooked in USM but that's minor. Bumping to 9. Congratulations.

10/05/2004 06:48:42 PM
Great expression on the girl's face. She looks like she's mad at the bubble. Even though she's concentrating on the one bubble it might work to not have the image as tightly cropped on the right or use a vertical crop that would include more or the girl.

The subtle colouring adds to the mood. The depth of field is perfect keeping the background from being distracting.

Cute little model - having fun. Are the colors accurate - them seem a bit washed out?

10/05/2004 02:10:06 AM
This is my over all favorite entry in the Masters challenge. The expression is timeless. The soft face color and blur background are perfect. The grainy feel gives this a classic finish. My only suggestion which may or may not improve this would be; to give her just a little more room in the frame. I think the crop is ok, but I wouldn't crop so much of her head out. Just beautiful in every way! 10

A darling portrait and very good clarity, but I find the background color clashes with the dress. I also think I would have preferred you not cropping off her head. 7

Stellar. The subject's expression is priceless, the capture of the solitary bubble, the clarity of focus and perfect DOF keep the girl in sharp focus while maintaining clarity of the reflections in the bubble. The colors and soft focus combine to add a nostalgic feel to an already perfect capture.

I like the choice of slight desaturation.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
10/04/2004 03:24:59 PM
Charming beyond words. The facial expression with pouting lips and blown cheeks can not but enthrall the viewer. Now, the post processing is not at its very best. You have here a very good exposure, yet post processing has added a dark brown perimeter around the image followed by a halo of um artifact. This is evident around the shoulders and arms. The harsh crease on the joint of the left shoulder could have been addressed by a transparant clone because about this very area there is a breaking down of the quality of skin tones.

Yet, the image has enough zap to outsail these minor setbacks. The model carries the day. Bumping up to 6

Oh my goodness. Could that little girl BE any more adorable!!! What can I say. This picture is above perfect! The expression on her face, as she concentrates on blowing. The capture of teh bubble. I wish there was a score of 12! But since there isn't, I'll just settle for 10.

How fun. I wonder how many bubbles she had to blow to get your shot? You captured her look perfectly and the post processing is very well done. But the coloration, I'm guessing you did a bit of desaturation seems just a bit off to me, not sure why. I guess I'm thinking the dress should be a bit brighter for some reason, not sure why. And is that you in the reflection of the bubble? A 9

!!!!!!!!!! This is so great !!!!!!!!!! Listen, if this was a greeting card I'd send it to my mom, ok?? hahaha, what a FACE, my god. She reminds me of me as a kid...I too was captivated by the bubbles...though it seems like she's looking at something out of frame (as if someone's coming to pop that bubble...) I am totally sold by her expression, and that you captured that bubble so perfectly. The softness of the photo is great, her polka dots are perfect, and the background is cool too. Love this, thanks!

A beauty. I sure want to see more of her eyes. It looks like you cropped it from the center of a distant shot and it is starting to break up. If not I would like less of a soft focus. 6

This is a wonderful shot, great expression and colours. The composition doesn't quite work for me, I'm wondering why a square format was used? Everything seems awkwadly placed within the frame. I REALLY wish she was looking at the bubble in the shot, rather than off-frame. Although NeatImage could kill this shot, I can't help thinking just a little would help reduce the very large amount of noise in this shot. 7

Magic. Love the muted colours, and particularly the subtleties...the burned background, the slight dodging in the face to bring out the finer point of this cuties face. Alecia pointed out the most significant part of this whole pic - you can see her reflection in the bubble - awesome. Great pic - 9

This is an interesting photo. You've indeed captured a good look on her face at the right moment. Her dress sort of makes this picture timeless, however the wristband throws off the facade. I do like the color though, it makes me feel as if I'm in the 50s. If only the wristband weren't there. 7

To me, a "master" would know when to take the photo. You knocked this one out of the park! Everything about this photo is perfect. The DOF, exposure, shutter speed...I'm amazed by the bubble too! I'm hurting myself here but you got a 10 from me. :)

What a precious look on her face. I like the subtle color feel of this one. That is something I need to work on, too many bright colors in my shots. I wonder if you blurred the background or used DOF. Super shot.

This is a cute picture. It reminds me of something taken in the 50s. I imagine there was more then one bubble but she doesn't seem to be captivated by the one in the picture. That's nit-picky I know but this is a great shot anyway (8).

10/01/2004 01:50:28 PM
This is a sweet portrait and I like the close crop that creates an intimacy between subject and viewer. I'm not a fan of soft focus effect so that doesn't appeal to me. I'm also finding that her focus on the bubble that is so far to her side means it's hard for me to see much detail in her eyes, and I'd like to. I wonder if it would be a stronger impact for me if she were looking at a bubble that were higher up? 6 (//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=129433)

She's beautiful. I think I know who's entry this is.
You know how to make an image "soft" without compromising focus.
A wonderful "candid" shot of this little girl. Colours in this photo are lovely.
Treasure her...they're young like this for such a short time.

10/01/2004 11:02:14 AM
No offence meant, but I think she looks more shifty than captivated. If she was looking at the bubble it would make this shot a lot lot better. Also the grain is a bit distracting and the overall image quality (I can't quite put my finger on why) is not great. It all seems a bit fuzzy. I think black and white would have worked better too, because the greeny brown colour in the background isn't very attractive. 5

I love this shot..it has a timeless feel to it
but your post editing has let you down, mostly around the elbows where you have selected the background and not feathered the the selection all the way to the arm and part of her hair looks blown out too
this would be a 10 if you could fix these 2 things in a re-edit ~~ 9

This photo makes my heart melt, it makes me think of back when I was a child. Great job.

I've always loved this shot.. It's absolutely gorgeous. I hope that I can capture Megan with as much energy, attitude, and life as this one day :) Way to go Sher :)
