Just stumbled across this portrait. What a stunner! How did this not win a ribbon? I suppose it was too soft or grainy for some voters. Just goes to show...

Was just going over some of my faves and as usual stopped at this one for another long, long look.
Think it's worth bringing back out into the open for the world to see again. :)

Beautiful shot that would have amazed Vermeer or Rembrandt. I'm surprised it did not do better.

Before I read your notes I thought Rembrandt or Vermeer ... super job!

Fantastic.

I really hope you've both read the book and saw the movie inspired by this painting. You would surely love both at least as much as I did!

Personally, This is by far THE best submission in this challemge. The balance of light exquisite! The way the head dress texture is brought out is almost too good. Drew my attention even before the face!! Then the face, clinched it.
My only regret is that I did not get to vote for you on this one.

I think Vermeer is Flemish, isn't he? Anyway, congrats on a strong finish, Sher!

I had no doubt this outstanding entry would win, not by a hair but uncontestedly. I am completely stumped to see in 10th place.

Hi sher, this is a wonderful reproduction, I can't believe how much your niece looks like the girl in the painting!! You did a great job with the costume, lighting and challenge, this was one of my 2 picks for blue. Wonderful, wonderful job.

Very interesting- how'd you do this? Did you photoshop her in or did you actually dress her up? 10!

Amazing lighting. Really gives a dramatic effects. The warm colors also helps with this feeling. The dark background really helps to push out the face. "10"

This is a VERY good recreation of Vermeer's classic including the angle of the body, the costume, the lighting on the face, etc. If you every try this again, I would have the blue wrap cover less of the ear as in the painting and maybe lower the camera slightly and have the subject look over her shoulder just a bit more. I enjoyed studying this one!

WOOOWWW!!
If I could give 11 on 10, I would do it!!! Vermeer would be so jealous of this beautiful picture!! Good luck for the ribbon.

very good, only the sharp edges around her chin and the front of her clothes bother me (editing, sharpening ?).

It looks like a 19th century painting. Gorgeous portrait. Interesting headpiece ads mystery. I actually like the grain in this photo and the black background is perfect.

Great lighting, just a tad soft though I am sure that was the intent. In my taste the pose is not very flattering and a possible detraction. Pretty good shot . . .

Vermeer would be proud, as should you.
The resemblance is stunning. The simplified (made?) Ottoman costume, material, texture, especially the rich muted colours, are sensitively chosen and arranged for the purpose. Light, composition, perspective, posture and manner, although so obviously 'lifted' from the painting are exquisite.

The young woman posing for this photograph is, indeed, worthy of a masterly portrait.
I bow.

Vermeer.......... Very, very, very good reproduction!
The moment it popped up on the voting screen I was in serious doubt if this was a real photo or a pained reproduction. The attention to detail (clothing, pose, colors, lighting, background, shadows, lip position) is so freaking good. Sure it has some flaws when it comes to comparing it to the actual painting, but that would be nitpicking.
Absolutely love it, best photo on dpc since Redmappers "Dream of the Past" (unfortunately disqualified for a date infringement).

I like this verry good light and colors really like a classical portrait painting. maybe I would of chose something else than black for the background maybe a darker brown or something like that but it's really great.

A very clever reprise; all the great artists "borrowed" occasionally. Nicely lit, lovely clear focus and a well controlled background. I like the slightly noisy skin texture and assume that it was deliberate. The edge to the dress on the left is a little hard, maybe PS'd or maybe that was how it photographed but it is a great shot.

Well, you definitely know your classics, great! Minor nitpicking: I would have liked to see a softer focus on the wrinkles in the blouse. 8
