Sorry for not commenting lately. It takes quite a while just getting the photos...as you all know. Will catch up over the weekend.
This is another shot taken yesterday at Minnamurra Falls.

Day 14 Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!
It's still pretty cold here, but it got in the 30's, so it wasn't terrible.
Here is my brother and his son ice skating.
here's my nephew, I call him Chubs because he was a fat baby. He's getting his skates re-laced and I caught him right before he covered his face.

I really meant to post and comment daily in this great side challenge, but ever since joining the local arts council and having a gallery to place my work in (not to mention creating a Smugmug gallery and Zazzle storefront), all of my photography time goes to creating products. I'm actually selling a few things, wow :-) So sorry to not have been active, especially since if it weren't for the previous versions of this side challenge and others, I wouldn't have had the skills or nerve to take my stuff into the real world :-) Thanks everyone!! |

I've been asked about HDR and how to use it. This thread has a lot of good links in it. HDR Labs also has a lot of good information; check out the software reviews and galleries.
I personally use different software depending on what I'm trying to do and the picture itself. You can do HDR in PS CS3, but on my pc it takes forever. I use Photomatix (standalone) and Artizen mainly for combining bracketed shots. Photomatix does a good job of combining the shots and tonemapping. However, sometimes it will not properly align images automatically and has no manual adjustment mode. I tend to use Artizen for shots that need aligning - it's auto mode does an excellent job and has manual adjustment just in case it misses the mark. Artizen has 32 bit editing but I can't quite get the hang of the interface and end up just tonemapping at this point.
Sometimes I tonemap in Artizen and sometimes in Photomatix. It's usually a matter of playing around to see which works better. I then take the photo into CS3 to finish editing.
The new kid in town is Wukong Beta. I've played with a bit, but it seems to have trouble aligning certain images. However, it's fast and very easy to use. The tonemapping interface is the easiest to use out of all of them. This would be a good starting point since the beta is free to test.
Once thing I've learned is that HDR/tonemapping does not work on all pictures and it's best to use just a single exposure. It's all a matter of trying it out and learning what works and what doesn't. |
