Let me know what's right/wrong with this in y'all's opinion. I am having some difficulty in getting a good balance between detail and samoothness.
I have pretty decent detail without the noise in the leaves and stamen/pistil, but the background just has too much noise to suit me.
Is there a way to keep that bokeh effect without lessening the noise so much that you lose the detail?
And getting the greys right is difficult. I've been desaturating using the monochrome setting in the channel mixer, then trying to get the grey tones right by mixing and trying to keep the 100 ideal whilst changing the RGB values to get the tones I want.
Does that sound right? |
Wish I knew...lol...my processing is relatively hit or miss at this point. Hopefully I will learn how to process "properly" in the future.

OK, here is Day 8
and Day 9
Went to see the Wold Press 2007 Exhibition today, came home late and had to shoot with readily available subjects. Not the best I've done but I'll do better tomorrow.
The exhibition was GREAT btw. Try to see it if you can. Some of these images will haunt me for days, I know. |

Day 10 -  Early today, as it is already the 10th here in Australia. I have my eye specialist appointment today, for the cataract on my left eye. Hopefully they can remove it soon, and I will be abls to see again.....

Well this will be 9a, 9b and 9c, 'cause I'm passing along a lesson I tryed to learn today. It may be that everyone else already knows how to do this, but just in case... (and oh, great, I'm following  cfarrell who has this technique down cold!

 this was my first try and I hated it. I went high key to get rid of the yucky gray that was the blue when desaturated. But I lost all detail in the wires & other stuff hanging onto the crane body.
 My second try was some better...Okay, on this one, I used Selective Colors a lot before going to Black and White (CS3) to minimize the blue and still retain as much as possible of the darker wires, etc. Then selected reasonably carefully the wires, etc. (in batches) and used levels to bring out the black. Again used Smart Sharpening and the result is, I think, better. Not perfect, but better.

spose i should apologise for putting in more than one for today .. it was pretty exciting to take photographs of something other than katee and the firetrail .. also i processed them all thinking of the b&w .. .. so i'm sharing them with you guys ..:)
