Actually, if you never get really high numbers, it's not hard at all to be completely untied from scores. :-) I tend to prefer comments to scores. If I get comments - even just one - that someone saw *something* semi-worthy in a shot, I'm good. |

The average score in this challenge was 5.57006. Since this was a month long challenge with everyone putting their best for the month shouldn't that number be a lot higher? I guess most voters nowaways just vote not so much on the photo's merits but how it compares to the other entries.

I do both. I'll vote for a photo on its merits, but if it's the fifth landscape in a row, and not as "good" as the other four, then I can't really give all of them the same high mark. |

How can you do both? If you are voting on it's merits then you give it the score you think it deserves. If you come across a better one you give that the score that deserves. If you go back to the other one and readjust then you aren't scoring it based on it's own merits but that of the collective.

I'm re-evaluating the merits of the first based on the second (or the other way around). Generally if that happens at all it'd be at the end, anyway. I believe it is fair. We are talking about a challenge here after all, it's a contest - much as though I might like everyone to win, that's not really the "point" in my view.
Really this isn't something that I do a lot of, there will maybe be a few images that I bump upwards by a point. But then I don't play fast and loose with extreme votes in any case. Other people are different. |

I thought this would have scored much higher.
Marked down for being cute?
I also am at a loss as to why this only scored 5.5

It was just an observation on my part. I am not saying one way is better than the other.

Yeah, I like your attitude. Something I'm trying to keep in mind. |
