There was a woman from Africa that came to my college today (Sept. 7). She was teaching students African dance. I used a slow shutter speed with flash and jarred the camera during the exposure to get the effect I wanted.

Great shot - should have done better.

My only wish - that the arm wasn't in front of the face.
This is awesome.

This is outstanding and very under-rated. I lived in Africa for two years, and I can say you totally captured the spirit of their dancing, IMO. Excellent work.

Wow... kind of suprised this didn't finish higher... very creative capture, so much movement!

Highly underrated! Why? Because here they open two eyes on the technique and none on creativity. You'll learn that in time and hopefully you'll learn also to remain creative in disregard of the scores you'll get. Very good work!

This should have scored so much higher. Love the colors and movement. Garnered a 9 from me. Great shot!

everyone's a critic. I still love this, still think its beautiful. Also think it was underrated. Course, its not a sunset or a beach or a pretty woman's face. :)

the white is a bit distracting, but just a bit, and it makes the photo look natural, unstaged, so I didn't take it as a minus - in fact i gave it ten and I hope that i) you will upload more pictures in future and ii) they will score as they deserve, I mean much higher

Great colors and I really feel the motion. I like this and would be proud to have taken it, but I'm not sure it is very DPC friendly. Best of luck and I will do my part 9

Excellent! I think it might be nice to have been back a bit (or cropped a bit less). Also, to avoid some of the brighter backgroun (white) highlights. But I know how hard these shots are, and this is generally terrific!

The colors in her skirt look really nice with the motion blur. The bright white at the top of the photo is too distracting.

I really hope this gets the appreciation it deserves. An excellent example of when motion blur not only works, but is vital. This shot has an amazing sense of life - both with the motion, and with the vibrant colors. Great shot!

I understand what you were going were going for with the stop motion, personally I'm not a huge fan of these types of pictures, but you did capture some really nice colors :)

forget dpc. this is fantastic. camera motion explains to us the dancer's motion. 9

If frenetic movement you wanted to portray, success. The extremely high contrast splashes across the middle of the frame are very distracting. Maybe a crop with her feet and hands also visible would help the subject. I like the blurred colors of the subject.

Good movement, I think it would have been nice to see a bit more of the woman's character, something of a face maybe.

I would like this better if some part of the shot was in focus.

this is beautiful and probably WAY too artistic to be appealing to the voters here - but I love this kind of work and know it can either be the easiest to get (camera on manual still and I don't realize it) or the hardest. I like it!

Cool idea... a bit to abstract for me but I can see the value of this.

Love it. The pastel-like motion quality really works. My only quibble is that her arm seems more in focus than the rest of the scene and thereby stands out unecessarily. Hope you don't get knocked by people who think it's "out of focus"!

I really like the sense of movement here. You did a great job of using a slow shutter to emphasize movement. The colors blend nicely. (9)
