An old tractor I saw when out for a stroll with the kids.
I kinda like the grungy look, you can almost smell the diesel fuel.
------------------------------------
Well, I am quite happy with how this image did, considering the rather uninteresting subject.
Thank you all for your comments.

For those of you who asked, some info on the processing I did :
Here's the original straight from the raw processor without ANY adjustments :

I imported the same raw image 3 times, each with a different exposure setting.
I can't recall the exact EV values but one was for highlights, one for shadows and the last had no correction.

I merged the 3 exposures into one 48-bit TIFF in Photomatix and then tone mapped the result.

I then tweaked the image further in photoshop using the usual tools such as hue/sat and curves.

I LOVE this pic, and praise you for your insight into what makes a great composition. I'm just starting out and this is my first message, but you give me inspiration! Well done!

Sorry, I don't do refunds.
It just goes to show that there's more to digital photography than capturing the image. I did have this type of processing in mind when I shot the engine.

This is really interesting despite the rather ordinary subject. The way you have it framed really turns it into a visually pleasing peice of art!

Yup, it sure is. I'm afraid the wow-effect will wear off with time though...

This was my second-highest rated image in the challenge. I think it's fantastically well done. So it's with a grin of pleasure that I check back and see that you, too, used Photomatix and Tone Mapping to get your enviable result. Ain't that a wonderful tool?

This is very impressive. You took a pretty normal, boring photo of a pretty boring normal subject and made it very interesting. I love the textures you've created with some very clever editing. Great colors too. This could be a tutorial to those with limited or no editing skills. I was amazed at the stark difference between the original and this edit!! When I first looked at the two, I had to really study them before I could believe they were pics of the same engine!

Apparently I like your style - this was my favorite of the challenge, though I didn't quite make it all the way through in voting. Really, really nice!

I would really like to know how you processed this, it is well done. The frame tidies up to photo as well.

likey that - greasy and moody.

I like this. It has that "grunge" look that is so popular around here, but I fell like this is natural "grunge". The tight crop is great.

Wow, way cool communication of the textures and tones--I can feel what those braided hoses and stuff feel like. I like this enough to add it as a favorite.

very cool, frame this and sell it - it's art

the fact that I love it makes me think that the voters don't - sorry to curse you like that! I hope it does better than I think it will, a LOT better because it's great work 8 for now

The colours (or lack of) work well here. The grime and oily nature seems well reproduced.

Finally, a photo with the grunge look that I like! The grunge look should be used for these types of shots, not for people! Great lighting, cool composition, good job!

I really like this one. The only thing I'd change would be to give it just a hair of clockwise rotation to straighten that top l;ine up with the frame. Well-see, well-captured and well-displayed. 8.

Wonderful industrial nostalgia, lovingly rendered, misappropriated -to my senses- by an obituary decor: the border.
