600+ images. Wow! Bound to have a few slip thru the cracks.

Some of the photo's I voted highly did quite well, but a handful ended up with a surprising finish IMO.

- Nice finish at 39th place, but figured this for a top 10.
- Good finish at 68th place, kinda saw this breaking the top 20.

The shockers for me...
- 173rd? Sub 6 score?
- 180th? Sub 6 score?

The underdog with potential...
- 448th place. Had hoped this would do a little better. Perhaps with a couple of tweaks?

Anyway, that's my take on a handful of entries.

Anybody else have any surprises, shockers, that you'd care to share? Please, not your own - we're always surprised, and/or shocked with our personal entries. :D

I voted 30 entries a 9 in this challenge and 3 tens - most of whom finished quite high - but here are a few not already mentioned that I loved and didn't get the finish I thought they should - although they still did pretty well.

My favourite far and away was bear_music's beautiful coastline

which was robbed of a ribbon by some cruddy hypersaturated landscape, which luckily for me is mine

Too many to list, but here's a few:

well, since nobody else is going to mention it, I was robbed in this challenge. maybe this is a hijack, but so be it. I usually don't complain about the score but lately I've been on a streak of near 6's and 6+'s and I don't understand why this didn't get at least a 5.8+

the moon was rising just as the sun was setting, and atmospheric turbulence distorted it to this "bad looking moon"
most commenters seem to like it, even if they don't know why, but in general the voters didn't seem to like it. Why?
I didn't expect top 10, but 372?

Such a nice artistic approach - you can almost feel the motion and activity. Creativity was awarded in this case with a finish of 349. :>/

you people have good taste. you've covered a lot of my high scores already. But this was a great challenge and I still have some more!

These all got 10s from me. If you wonder why, click on them and read my comments:

did well but should have done better.

sigh... from another time... another world...

This would be great for the morning challenge.

I only managed to vote on 200, but in that, here are my lowest placing high scores.

My only 10:
in 118th?

Some 8s:
99th
151st
235th
257th

There were some great shots in this challenge!

Some I thought would have scored higher (some scored very well, just not in the place I thought they should have):
39th
105th
127th
271st

This image finished with a sub-5 score, in 499th place. I thought it was absolutely beautiful, and gave it an 8:

Hear, hear, Robert! One day we can expand the horizon of DPC!

"You know, this isn't bad. I think I would have cloned out the sharp fringe at the front of the far wing. I'm sure this is getting hammered, eh? Something speaks to me though. Extra point for the balls of entering this at DPC (which tends to shriek at abstracts unless it's an abstract challenge). 7"

Says the guy who enters the very DPC-friendly richly saturated landscapes. :-) Take the lead, Doc; step across the line now and then.

These images all did very well so perhaps they're not really considered hidden gems... rather it's a sign of respect for those who venture out of their comfort zone (in some cases) and who express themselves in unique and challenging ways. Non conformists all.

Haha! Don't think that thought didn't cross my mind. Unfortunately my curse is I like that kind of stuff. I've tried to go away from it from time to time, but I am not very good at it...

I did have a "grunge" phase about three months ago where I was entering muted shots or shots which were at least mildly disturbing...two managed 6 scores, the other three were solidly in the 5's somewhere...

one of the most under rated in my opinion

It's a tough one, first of all to be able to step across the line, second to deal with the low scores.

But it sure would be good to expand the horizon of DPC. I'd love that. It would be very helpful for a lot of us I think.

Ursula, with your talent I'd love to see what you came up with. And the few times DrAchoo did step out of the box, I loved his photos.

Thank you. I love trying to step out of the box, but it's not so easy always. It's also funny (and sad) how tied we are to numbers - how important that stupid high score becomes. Very sad.
