It may not seem so sad but I'll explain after the lyrics...

Phillips Craig & Dean - I Want To Be Just Like You
From the album Lifeline

He climbs in my lap for a goodnight hug
He calls me Dad and I call him Bub
With his faded old pillow and a bear named Pooh
He snuggles up close and says, "I want to be like you"
I tuck him in bed and I kiss him goodnight
Trippin' over the toys as I turn out the light
And I whisper a prayer that someday he'll see
He's got a father in God 'cause he's seen Jesus in me

Lord, I want to be just like You
'Cause he wants to be just like me
I want to be a holy example
For his innocent eyes to see
Help me be a living Bible, Lord
That my little boy can read
I want to be just like You
'Cause he wants to be like me

Got to admit I've got so far to go
Make so many mistakes and I'm sure that You know
Sometimes it seems no matter how hard I try
With all the pressures in life I just can't get it all right
But I'm trying so hard to learn from the best
Being patient and kind, filled with Your tenderness
'Cause I know that he'll learn from the things that he sees
And the Jesus he finds will be the Jesus in me
Right now from where he stands I may seem mighty tall
But it's only 'cause I'm learning from the best Father of them all

I am the second youngest in a family of 8 and all the older siblings have at least 2 children that call them mom or dad. My first wife could not have children due to medical conditions (by the way this is NOT why she is my first wife and not the current wife).

My new wife nearly died during the delivery of her daughter almost 15 years ago in her first marriage, so we will never have childern of our own. This song has rung in my heart for years wanting to have someone that looked up to me and wanted to be like me.

This changed when my wife's daughter started taking photographs too and I totally lost it (and still do when I think about it) when she told her mom that when she gets married she wants a man like me. I have got everything I have ever wanted and didn't even have to be of my own blood to be it. This song still makes me weep because I realize how blessed I truly am.

I saw the list Ken posted ....and in the 70's list I was reminded of one that we had when I was a kid (a 45 record!).

Does anyone remember the song, "Blind man in the bleachers"?
I don't recall the musician but I remember the song.

**The Bonnie Raitt song Sher mentioned hits home too.....that whole tape was good. (still have it)

After moving to Florida I got real homesick for my mom and that song came out by the Wilkinson's called "26 cents" (I think that was the name) ... that made me boob for awhile....

I don't expect anyone to know or understand this one....

They're calling time for exercise
Round her Majesty's hotel
The maid'll hose the room out
When I'm gone
I never knew such luxury
Before my verdict fell
Four walls, washbasin, prison bed

Well the Bathurst riots ended
When they clubbed the rebels down
And in every congregation
There was silence
You can hear the Angels singin'
When Christmas comes around
Four walls, washbasin, prison bed

I love to march while some Nazi calls the time
Who'd wanna go home

I can't see
I can't hear
They've burnt out all the feeling
I've never been so crazy
And it's just my second year
Four walls, washbasin, prison bed

The song was actually named The Last Game of the Season and I remember 2 different versions. (I loved the song when I was 10 and actually have it on 2 different compilation albums somewhere in storage) I think it was sung by both David Geddes and Kenny Starr; one on each album. My brother gave even me a CD, with the Kenny Starr version, a couple of years ago on christmas as a gag.

Good morning (not so much)!

*spoken like a valley girl* Are we, like, gluttons for punishment? Hello? :)

Ok, I haven't even had my first cup o' java this morning AND I'm already depressed. Thanks, Sabphoto, for making me teary-eyed this morning. But now, I REALLY need to have a good cry and let it all out. Hmm, what can I do for that? Oh, yeah, I'll go check my score for the current challenge. That should do it. Ha ha.

Tori Amos--Tear in Your Hand and also China.

*sigh* Why did I have to read this thread? Now I'm all gooey inside. Darn it.
:)

My list now includes
Imagine - John Lennon
China - Tori Amos (Thanks phatphoto for reminding me)
When I'm Gone - Phil Ochs (And whether you agree with his political views is beside the point. The song is amazing)

Lyrics to When I'm Gone:
There's no place in this world where I'll belong when I'm gone
And I won't know the right from the wrong when I'm gone
And you won't find me singin' on this song when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here

And I won't feel the flowing of the time when I'm gone
All the pleasures of love will not be mine when I'm gone
My pen won't pour out a lyric line when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here

And I won't breathe the bracing air when I'm gone
And I can't even worry 'bout my cares when I'm gone
Won't be asked to do my share when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here

And I won't be running from the rain when I'm gone
And I can't even suffer from the pain when I'm gone
Can't say who's to praise and who's to blame when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here

Won't see the golden of the sun when I'm gone
And the evenings and the mornings will be one when I'm gone
Can't be singing louder than the guns when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here

All my days won't be dances of delight when I'm gone
And the sands will be shifting from my sight when I'm gone
Can't add my name into the fight while I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here

And I won't be laughing at the lies when I'm gone
And I can't question how or when or why when I'm gone
Can't live proud enough to die when I'm gone
So I guess I'll have to do it while I'm here

Two that have gotten to me:
Symphony No. 3 - The Symphony of Songful Songs by Henryk Gorecki
(the recording with Dawn Upshaw as the soprano)
Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber

So many of the ones mentioned do it for me, too. But here's a few I haven't seen in the list:

Remember the Tinman - Tracy Chapman
Fragile - Sting
Noah's Dove - 10,000 Maniacs
Lullaby (Goodnight, My Angel) - Billy Joel
Anna Begins - Counting Crows
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Just about anything off of Elliot Smith's album "Either/Or" after listening to it for a while
Music of the Night (from "Phantom of the Opera" as sung by Michael Crawford)
Moonlight Sonata (Beethoven)

I know I'll be thinking of so many more after I click "Post"...

Skin- Rascall Flatts

"Who You'd Be Today"- Kenny Chesney

:*************************(

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
I feel you everywhere I go
I see your smile, I see your face
I hear you laughin' in the rain
Still can't believe you're gone

It ain't fair you died too young
Like a story that had just begun
But death tore the pages all away
God knows how I miss you
All the hell that I been through
Just knowin' no one could take your place
Sometimes I wonder
Who you'd be today

Would you see the world, would you chase your dreams
Settle down with a family
I wonder what would you name your babies
Somedays the sky's so blue
I feel like I can talk to you
And I know it might sound crazy

Today, today, today
Today, today, today

Sunny days seem to hurt the most
I wear the pain like a heavy coat
The only thing that give me hope
Is I know
I'll see you again some day
Someday, someday

THOSE DANG COUNTRY SONGS!!!!

Changing Channels by Jimmy Buffett gets to me, although I love it.
End of the Innocence - Don Henley
Every Now and Then - Another by Garth Brooks, makes me tear up when I hear it and think about old loves...

I saw a car the other day, like you used to drive
Got a funny feeling down deep inside,
And for the briefest moment I felt a smile again,
Yes I do think about you, every now and then...

And I love my life, and I'd never trade,
Between what you and me had and the life I've made,
She's here and she's real,
But you were too,
And every once in a while I think about you

I've been laying here all night, listening to the rain
Talking to my heart and trying to explain,
Why sometimes I catch myself wondering what might have been,
Yes I do think about you, every now and then...

That reminds me... "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel makes me boohoo because I'm still looking for my very own Lloyd Dobler.

not really a song that makes me cry but one that is greatr and everyone should listen to is Ben Harper - Picture Of Jesus. I will list the lyrics but you must listen to it because he has a very powerful voice.

Ben Harper - Picture of Jesus Lyrics

It hangs above my altar
Like they hung him from a cross
I keep one in my wallet
For the times I feel lost
In a wooden frame with splinters
Where my family kneels to pray
And if you listen close
You'll hear the words he used to say
I've got a picture of jesus
In his arms so many prayers rest
We've got a picture of jesus
And with him we shall be forever blessed

Now it has been spoken
He would come again
But would we recognize
This king among men
There was a man in our time
His words shine bright like the sun
He tried to lift the masses
And was crucified by gun

He was a picture of jesus
With him so many prayers rest
He is a picture of jesus
In his arms so many prayers rest
With him we shall be forever blessed

Some days have no beginning
And some days have no end
Some roads are straight and narrow
And some roads only bend
So let us say a prayer
For every living thing
Walking towards a light
From the cross of a king

We long to be a picture of jesus
In his arms so many prayers rest
I long to be a picture of jesus
With him we shall be forever blessed

Somewhere in the night we will know
Everything lovers can know
You're my song, music too magic to end
I'll play you over and over again
Lovin' so warm, movin' so right
Closin' our eyes and feelin' alive
We'll just go on burnin' bright
Somewhere in the night

You'll sleep when the mornin' comes

Gee you like John Denver AND the *singer* of "Somewhere in the Night" ? I am very impressed. I thought I was the only one that listened to that any more :) My daughter will forever hate me because I have made her into a "closet" fan of the same singer. LOL

I do have to say that "One Voice" moves me to tears more readily than "Somewhere in the Night."
