I think everyone likes this great idea.
Might as well keep the rules and dates the same as the normal challenges.
This way it`s just a straight forward knock-out competition.

A couple of thoughts to throw into the mix ...
Halving the number of contestants each round all the way to 2 seems like it would take a v long while. If it were me designing this competition I would do the following:
Round 1: open to all: Free Study
Round 2: top 64 : Urban or Rural Landscape
Round 3: top 32 : Macro
Round 4: top 16 : People
Final: top 8 : Free Study
I think those categories are broad enough for people to show off what they're good at, and limiting enough to ensure the winner is an all round good photographer rather than a studio specialist, landscape specialist, whatever ...

And you use the voting from the challenges to determine the placings, yeah? The no-one knows which shots are for the knock-out challenge - which would be a good thing.

I like the original idea (1:26pm) more than the other possibility suggested (1:50pm). The only down side to this is that the further along the challenge goes, the fewer people there are to participate. At least we could all vote(I think?), and that would make up for it. If this site ever makes good on these suggestions to make some alternate "extended" type challenges I promise to purchase a membership! |

It's a great idea
even if I didn't enter or got knocked out in the first round ( most likely ) it would be fun to watch the following rounds progress
LETS JUST DO IT |

I think it would be great if some prizes were given away. Nothing big really, just something like free prints from //www.dpcprints.com or free membership for the next year. What do you guys think?

I think this would be totally fun. And those of us that are knocked out early, IMO won't feel left out if we still have our regular challenges to work on, and it'll be a lot of fun just watching from the sidelines. I suppose everyone could submit to all of the challenges in place of the regular member challenges, but only the winners from the previous challenge would advance.

After a good night's sleep, I decided it does sound like a good (and fun) idea. Sorry about being so grumpy/preachy yesterday. |

I think this needs to be re-stated. This challenge is being suggested to be run in parallel with the regular weekly challenges or did I miss the crossover to only running this challenge?

How about this - for each round, everyone can enter a shot and will be voted on like normal challenges, but a little admin note will show up on the ones that count for the elimination challenge (those who advanced from the previous round). That way, we can use it as the regular open challenges, everyone can participate every time, but this one kind of goes on in the background....
Does that make sense? |
