Open to members:

This would be a multiple challenge series.....

Challenge #1: A topic is provided... two weeks to shoot... one week to vote... The top 64 photos in the challenge proceed to the next challenge...

Challenge #2: A topic is provided... two weeks to shoot... one week to vote... The top 32 photos in the challenge proceed to the next challenge...

Challenge #3: A topic is provided... two weeks to shoot... one week to vote... The top 16 photos in the challenge proceed to the next challenge...

Challenge #4: A topic is provided... two weeks to shoot... one week to vote... The top 8 photos in the challenge proceed to the next challenge...

Challenge #5: A topic is provided... two weeks to shoot... one week to vote... The top 4 photos in the challenge proceed to the next challenge...

Challenge #6: A topic is provided... two weeks to shoot... one week to vote... The top 2 photos in the challenge proceed to the next challenge...

Challenge #7: A topic is provided... two weeks to shoot... one week to vote... The grand winner is declared from this head to head challenge...

The reason for providing two weeks to shoot instead of one week in a series like this is so that everyone would have a better chance not getting excluded from a challenge due to family or work requirements that could interfere with a one week shooting time frame...

I think this would be big fun :)

Sounds like fun. You don't work for the FOX network do you? ;) We could could call it DPChallenge Idol.

This sounds like alot of fun!

Sounds like a good idea to run in parallel with everything else...

'Tis a fine idea, but I feel that the first challenge should be open challenge where there is no theme to meet. I feel this would allow the photographer to best show off his/her skills to make the cut.

2 of these challenges per year with the top 10 of each (20 total) going at it in a final challenge for top banana!

good idea john :)

I'd also maybe like to see a 5 challenge contest - different theme for each challenge, the winner being the person with the highest average over all 5 themes. A similar but different take to the elimination round idea.

A fantastic idea! The only problem is the big vacation period coming in a month or two (in Europe anyway). Many people are going away on holidays.

Another possible idea on the original theme posted here would be to do one week shoot / one week vote but post all the challenge topics 4 weeks before it starts so everyone can start shooting for all the challenges before they start... don't announce which challenge will run when in advance tho...

This sounds like it might be a lot of fun.

Totally awesome idea - I don't know how much extra work it would take on the part of Drew and/or Langdon, but it would be WAY fun - even just watching after being eliminated would be fun!

Count me in (for the first round, anyway...)

Very cool idea!! fun!

I like the idea .. but I would manage to cut more quickly in the number of participants ... it's still additional challenges where only a few people could participate.
I would do it in 3 steps

64
32
5

cool idea John.

Its a cool idea as long as it is in addition to the regular challenge that way everyone still has something to look forewrd to week after week and isn't sitting here after the first week being completely excluded from member challenges.

Just thinking about this....
It's going to be very cool really fun and yes I agree it's like DPC IDOL.
Good idea John - do you need help getting this off the ground?

Sounds like a pretty fun challenge as long as it is concurrent with existing challenges.
A point to consider in the early rounds would be to cut according to the scores rather than the placement. I bring this up as there is usually very little point spread in the mid ranges, and that seems to me to be a little more tollerant for the average photographers. Just an idea!

Sounds like fun to me!

I'm not sure if i understand this... The scores determine the placement... Top 64 scores/placements in the first challenge... top 32.. and so on...

I don't care how it's scored....I WANNA PLAY!!!!

FANTASTIC idea! What a hoot to see who goes on to the next round. I think that you may need a special ribbon or award to the final four and winner too!

Can we have a loser's bracket?
:-)
