You have three accounts here? I had no idea that was allowed...

My first 3 are up right now and it is amazing how often I look. I have a 5.8, a 5.0, and a 3.1 so far. I agree with most of my comments, and I am almost embarrassed about some of the decisions I made in 2 of those shots in retrospect, but I am having fun. One of the shots I am proud of, but I wonder if I can live up to it in the future. I was sort of amazed that I took the picture. My mind is reeling trying to figure out these next two challenges. I think I have some great ideas, but in 3 pictures I have learned one thing for certain...don't be afraid to let go of an idea if it just aint workin'. Another thing I am learning...no matter how positive your attitude about shooting with substandard equipment, it still limits what you can do. I have ideas that I just can't pull off with my canon elph. Frustrating? well yes; but it doesn't make it less fun and I may have to get very creative to do some of the things I want to do.

I don't know about you, but I so can't wait to see who took what pics. It's killing me.

I really think Sherry... means she is in Three Challenges...

Ahh of course... Doh! Sorry, it's only 6:30 am here and I've come down with a head cold. Yeah, that's my excuse... :)

Yup, that's what I meant. I probably should have been clear on that since this is the light on white thread.

For the record and I state that I didn't vote low on an entry IF I was unsure if it was B/W and had a dark color object or the background was dark. Only the obvious ones I did so. I repeat OBVIOUS. If you look at the entries then you will understand that some people just took a shot and didn't think about the challenge. This is what I am stating. I am not going to keep answering to my actions. Just remember it is MY opinion. And we all know that saying, right? This is how I felt I needed to vote and if you don't like it oh well. I just had enough balls to stand up and state my opinion. Again I repeat I didn't vote the ones I couldn't tell that were B/W low. Such as the one Robert posted here. That one is to difficult to tell.

I guess I need to keep my opinions to myself from now on. Of course I get slammed when I voice my opinion. I should have known.

Instead of having an opinion I will go back and give every photo a 10. How's that.

Hey, if you voice an opinion it's going to commented upon. Of course! Where's the harm of that? It's not like it's personal or anything, none of us know you. It just so happens that your voiced opinion set off some responses in people. Isn't that hwo it should be?

Peace, Robt.

Robert you are right but it needs to be stated that If I was unsure of it being B/W or not I voted on it as if it was not. As in your photo posted here. There are some that are obvious. I have only been a member here for two months and you have helped me quite a bit and I respect your opinion and appreciate your help. I just get mad when my words are taken out of context.

My fault on that. Sometimes my brain goes faster than I can type. Hopefully it makes sense now.

I think this challenge is good because for once a lot of people seem to want to do just that light on white but its all studio work. Seemes like most challenges people put the challenge to the test and go out of the box like the 60s challenge---O I mean the 70s thought it was the sixties by all the pics and winners, guess being there doesnt matter. This time I went out of the box a little to see what would happen and it seems people dont like that. I have other shots(tighter to the subject) but chose one showing a little more to see. I also have my studio shots about 200 but thats another story white on white can be boring. Unless its realy done well with a unique idea.

It almost automatically gives you whites, lights and brights...in some or most cases.

Opinions?

I had a problem with that also. I will probably get slammed for saying this but I voted all black and whites low. A picture of a person in front of a white background turned into B/W is not meeting the challenge to me. And I am not singling anybody out here. They didn't in my eyes meet the challenge by taking a shot that is not normally a light colored object or a white background. I thought it was all about experimenting and learning from these challenges. This is something I haven't tried and honestly gave it my best shot to not over expose my highlights. Which I feel I accomplished

First, let me say that I am happy with the score I am getting on my entry, but it does concern me that people are voting pictures down because they are B&W. I read the challenge description many times because in the past I have misread a "the" for an "a" and done poorly because of it. I didn't see any problem with desaturating a picture. The picture I took was something of light color in front of a white background. When I compared the "B&W" to the original I thought it was much more striking so that is the one I entered.

I guess there is no way to guess how others are going to interpret the challenge description, but it is a little frustrating to see that people are going to vote all the B&W pictures low because they feel like it. I could decide that eggs and light bulbs are white and therefore not a light color and give them all ones. That would be a lot of ones in this challenge. (Just an example. I wouldn't do it and there are some good eggs and light bulbs out there.)

Well, that was my rant. But I do hope that these "low voters" try to see this challenge in broader terms.

By no means am I a low voter. I have about 60% of the light on white challenge above a 6.

I have completely re-evaluated my voting strategy on this challenge.

It seems like people interpreted things in a far different fashion than I did and I won't hold it against them AND most importantly I hope they won't hold it against me but I will add that I think a clear B&W (and there are plenty of them)was outside of the rules. I will simply vote them as well taken pictures first and on subject matter.

My perception of a light object seems to differ as well. I will galdly give it all away to artistic license. Is it still ok if I vote "blow-outs" a bit lower? That was probably the only crystal clear rule that I have in my pocket.

Can we all agree that the 60's weren't the 70's? LOL!

You want a high score just for meeting the challenge? Well ain't that spit-on-my-neck kick-me-in-the-crotch fantastic! I'm sure wild monkeys could meet the challenge requirements if given a camera.

I think this challenge was the best one yet. It appears to me that it has caused a controversey and debate as to the interpretation as to the meaning of "light". I feel this is a positive argument. It gets all our creative juices flowing and causes us all to think and explore our creative side. My image is sitting at around a 4.44 which is not very good. I'm being scored low for the simple fact that people are under the impression that my image is a color photo that has been converted into a B/w. The truth to the matter is my image is actually a color image that I created using lighting and shadows to create an illusion. It appears to have worked. My subject material covers a very broad tonal range and I just proved to myself that I have the capacity to be very creative and have very good control of tones and color without the use of post processing software. My set-up took aprox. 4-5hrs. from set-up to finish. I have sold two of my image's to people I have only just meet and every body I have talked to was very impressed by the technique I used and were stunned when I told them it was not a B/w image. I feel I have a winner but when all is said and done I feel we all are winners in this one because of the many different interpretations of what light can mean to different people. Art is very subjective.

I think people have a stoic image of what light on white is based on what voting I've seen for my picture...there are many shades of white when it is impacted by light..there can be multiple ideas of photos with varying white in them based on reflection...maybe it's just me...I just don't get it anymore; I must be getting too damn old.

I'm far from finishing my voting but I will make another quick pass after to see and re-evaluate what I've done.

I'm certain that some of my lower votes will need a kinder gentler eye.
I hope other people at this juncture feel the same way.
