This is just blowing my mind. I thought this was one of my best ever..and is turning out to be HORRIBLE! I can't understand how you can score this low when you met the challenge. I'm about ready to give up with some of the rest of you!

Score still not much better but the number itself is pretty neat:

After 80+ challenges, I STILL can't pinpoint what voters really look for. I thought I was a pretty decent judge of what a score might be, and figured this one for a 5.5 to 5.6, but I am wrong again. It's not the first time. Today even. ;o)

It just goes to show you can't please everyone. As long as you please yourself that is all that matters. I think I got the perfect shot. Anyway learned how to do a solid white background. At least I learned something new.

I'm right there with you...smack dab in the middle there with you...I cannot guesstimate a photo's score worth a damn. What blows my mind is that when I enter what I feel is a bad photo (my 70's entry - 5.3) it beats out - quite soundly, I might add - others that I thought were good (my b&w entry - 4.8).

My current entry is sinking fast...no pun intended (it'll make sense at the end of the challenge). Right now, I'm at about 4.5 somethingerother.

But, this challenge was fun to shoot. I had more ideas for this challenge than any in the past few months, and that always makes it more interesting.

Think my score is like the rest are having. Seems like alot of low scores in this challenge.
I have looked at the thumbnail pics and will vote
later. But there does seem to be a few with dark backgrounds rather than light, and dark colour subjects....think this will be a challenge in the voting!!
but good luck everyone...there has to be a winner, and maybe they will only have a low winning score and things don't look so bad after all...lol
debbie.

You know, I know a 10 when I see it, a 9 as well. Eights are pretty well definable as well as sevens on down. The one thing that eludes me is having a CLUE when it comes to taking a bloody 10. Living in foursville again....blah

so, I am sitting good at 6.222 ? Whell.. hmm.. didn't expected. I like my photo, but didn't know if people will like it...

Let's hope for better :) (because I actually rose from 5.3 to 6.2 in a couple of hours)

Well that's refreshing, someone going up good rather than crashing hard. Good for you! :-)

Waaaa!

I was going to submit this:

But I did not because I did not think it met the challenge. I am looking at the other entries right now and I could have done ok... what do you think?
03/02/2005 10:36:17 AM · #66
Damn. Went to bed a 6 and got up a 4.9. Must be a morning thing.
03/02/2005 10:37:47 AM · #67
well i'm sitting at 4.5, thought it would have done better although it does have one or two very slight problems, but i don't think they take away from the image much at all.

Well I dropped from a bit over 6.7 last night to just over 6 this morning. Still I am pretty happy about my score, I was not sure how the votes were going to judge my photo.

Aint that the truth Laurie! I am at 4.9 with 4 comments and a favorite, but I really liked this one? Ususally when I like it alot, it does about 5.5. But this one should not be under 5??? Go figure. Good luck to you all!

Now it's down to 5.01 so I really am lost with this one. It's light, it's on white, and it's in focus.

As Scarlett says, "I'll think about that tomorrow...after all, tomorrow is another day." ;o)

just got a validation proof request which I was very happy to get and respond to. I suspect that some of the voters may vote my shot down instinctively thinking it violated the rules (which it did not), so seeing (hopefully :)) "The photo has been validated" may calm their concerns"

So far - not so bad, but not so good either:

The way I did my background was to use a window. I put a king size mattress pad over the window and then positioned my subject about 8 feet in front of the window. The light was perfect (on the background). The light on my subject was a little off though.

Last night it was at 6.8. Way too good to be true.

I have to say that this topic was really a challenge for me. I learned a lot of new things for it. I tried my new lense, Cannon 100mm f2.8 macro. (Very exciting!) I shot in RAW for the first time. That was very cool also. When I bought white poster board for the background at an art store, someone mistook me for an artist!

I'll probably end up a little above the middle of the pack, but it was a great experience. (and I really like my picture)

I just wish i had more comments on my photo, as I'm trying hard to comment on others'. So far I have one, though almost 100 people have voted on mine. I believe it's by getting constructive critics that you can improve. If you feel my photo isn't good, why not specify the reasons?

There are over 400 entries in this challenge.. while it's great to see someone trying hard to comment on a lot of photos, it's just not realistic to expect everyone to do the same. With a challenge that has a large number of submissions, the comments will, generally, be spread out more, and usually take longer to show up. If *all* of us, say, averaged 100 comments (which is a LOT), that's only 100 out of 400, and people are going to get missed.. so, just be patient.. the comments will either trickle in, or they won't.
