OK, I know I wasn't with you folks when I took my photos but I didn't want to start another poppy thread. :)
I don't know about your trip but I didn't see too much orange. Lots of the yellow flowers and MANY weeds. Too bad Photoshop doesn't have a "Remove weeds..." filter. :)
Anyway, here are my photos in my high-tech and professional portfolio. :)

I don't want to stir controversy, but kirbic said that the pictures he took here in Phoenix were a lot better that those with you guys in CA.
Personally, I thought your guy's shots were terrific. I have no idea why kirbic would say such a thing. :)

Awwww, pay no attention to Steve, his hearing was obviously affected by his allergy attack last Friday... either that or he's just jealous I'm outscoring him currently in "stock"!

Me, jealous? Surely you jest. You CA folks would not believe that of me. After all, I'm a Westerner in AZ. I have only honorable intentions. All you have to do is look at the pictures you guys took to know they are great! You just never know about those mid-westerners like kirbic. :)

Thanks, Eric! I had a lot of fun walking around taking photos. Too bad it was so windy that rendered most of my poppy shots too blurry. So, I just posted the ones I felt worth sharing.
I was motivated by everyone's photos from the previous week so I decided to head out there. I was in Pasadena so it was "close" by. I use the word close loosely. :) However, I had a friend with me and not sure she'd want extra company (no offense). :) Perhaps in the future I'll bring her to DPC meets. She's into photography and wants to learn more at some point through classes.

Here's another one checking in (late) from the poppy fields. It was great to meet you all and it sounds as if you had a lively time up in the hills. I didn't get to spend much time with the group as I stayed on the flatlands with my macro lens. Here are a few from that day.

They also come in white, rarely

I and my buddy continued on to Joshua Trees Nat'l Park for more photography of the desert bloom. The flower show there at the southern (Cottonwood) entrance is splendid.
Hope to meet you all again one of these days.

Nice white poppy shot! We didn't see any last weekend but we did spot one yellow poppy about 9-10 feet from the edge of the trail and I didn't want to switch lenses just for that as it was VERY windy. It's hard to see but I'll post the photo later.

Thanks, guys. Yes, it was weird. We'd been waiting for a little while and my buddy decided to wander off and explore. By the time we all met up, she had already reached the top of the highest hill(!) and when the agreed upon time to meet came up, she took a short cut down to the Visitor's Center. But, since she's close to (shush, don't tell anyone) 80, she didn't want to go back up there again. And, I didn't either, I guess.
Glad you liked the white poppy. My buddy found it. Natch.

Wow - that was quite an experience. Made it out there for Tuesday afternoon. Will post a few pictures later in the weekend when I get some editing done.
Here's one from a field just outside Lancaster
Drove up from Irvine/ Santa Ana so only took a couple of hours. Well worth the trip! Just a shame I didn't get a chance to meet up with any of y'all.

Darn! If I knew you were in town I would have taken the day off and met you up there!
Oh well. I think I am going to head out there today to check it out again "I'm off on Fridays"
Looking forward to seeing the rest of your photos from the trip.

Did any of y'all have problems with how orange those flowers are ?
The shots seem to be close to unprintable without a lot of fiddling. |

I'm damn glad I shot RAW, I'll say that. It was waaaaay to easy to blow the red channel. I have not printed anything from that shoot as yet, but I can imagine that the super-saturated orange might be an issue.

Gordon, those are some very nice shots! Wish I could have seen you with that big camera! Lol!
I haven't tried printing mine either, I don't know what kind of printer it would take to get the color just right, the flowers are so saturated.

I think for some of these, I'd have preferred a small camera with a tilting LCD :)
