My only effort to drop below 4:
I don't think it was technically too bad (compared to my other entries, anyway!) - in fact I quite like it, certainly more than some of my previous entries.
But I got well and truly slaughtered by daring to take a more flexible interpretation of "Portrait". Note to self: must be shot in studio with clear view of face in the future :)

This is my worst scoring picture with a 2.299. Its not a bad shot but I accidently put it in the wrong challenge. You can really get killed when you do that!
This is actually my worst picture taken back in 2002 when I was a newbie. There had been a sharp learning curve since then.

I think it was a perfect entry!!! Without sunlight, many outdoor team sports would be quite difficult to play!!! Interpretaiton is everything...Good shot! ;o)

Only because that picture could have been 10 times better had I known anything about photography heh. All my other attempts have been real attempts (which is sad, I know), but that one was just a quick snap shot then I discovered this place and figured why not submit it to the wheels challenge hehe.

I so wish interpretation were everything...then perhaps my yin-yang puddle with racoon print picture would have done better for "Wildlife":
(I was rather unhappy that week and the weather was oppressive.)
Then, of course, there's this one (I was so happy to try selective desaturation, I spent all week trying it out without really thinking about my subject):
WWIT?!!

Thanks Shawn, Actually a few people felt as you did and felt that it did fit the challenge. I was going to use it in the Masters open challenge but put it in the sports challenge by mistake. Ended up putting another picture in the Masters challenge that I was very happy with:) |

Obviously I think outside the box...This is a perfect enty and interpretation to that challenge...If I was a member back then I would have scored a 7 and congratulated you on your representation to the challange. I guess you and I are a unique breed here at DPC ;o)

My second submission and a try at being "Artsy" for the "Vehicles" challenge
Another "Artsy" attempt (most folk learn quickly..I take a little longer)..Shallow DOF challenge.

Here are my two worst shots on paper...
Whoopsies...
And a little bit of a misunderstanding...
Here are the ones that I think are underrated of mine (just to toot my own horn) :)
I think we all know why this one bombed... (oy vey)
I really did think that this would do better
Not the greatest photograph but I like the message involved :)
Alright... I'll stop now!

This is my personal brown ribbon for the year with a 4.178 and 13th percentile score (Macro Without Bugs or Flowers):
I can't believe it scored lower than the 4.268 and 16th percentile this masterpeice earned for the Communication challenge:

My two sub-4 entries:
Silhouettes Challenge
3.909 / 164 out of 169
I supposed it was a little dark, but the silhouette was obvious on my monitor.
Chinese Zodiac Challenge
3.973 / 72 out of 77
I tried a humous entry...we all know how those go over. I thought it was cute. :-)

My lowest percentile placing was 6% with my complexity entry (I still LOVE this shot by the way):
My lowest scoring shot was my 4.12 in the serendipity challenge (I love the shot for sentimental reasons even if it is a suck):
I had a 6%, an 8%, two 11%, a 13%, and a 16% placement in challenges throughout the past 8 months as well...but I do believe I've grown a lot since signing up! Thanks DPC for making this a wonderful learning year for me and introducing me to a terrific hobby and some treasured friends. :o) |

Brown Ribbon!
With a 2.308 in the Strength challenge, this was a very sad attempt at taking a picture just for the sake of entering at 11:30 night of the deadline. Since entering more challenges and being more involved with DPC, I've learned to forget about it and work on continually thinking of better ideas and not to procrastinate so much :b

Sadly, I have at least three stinkers to offer even though I only entered my first challenge in NOVEMBER! My first was worst:
I took the photo for this entry on the very day that my camera arrived, and it showed :) Scoring 4.266 (4%) in CALENDAR:
Next, my entry for YELLOW REVISITED, scoring 4.282 (13%).
Finally, in LUCKY-7, my final tally was 4.867 (35%). Thought this one would do better. Maybe it's because, as one commenter said (and it cracked me up) there were "five and two halves, technically":
Even so, I'm having a blast, and hopefully improving, albeit with fits and starts. Goals for 2005: break into top 90%, top 20, top 10, and if it all goes really well, maybe even a virtual ribbon! Wishing the same for you all. |

Lots wrong with this. bad focus, bad reflections, humor doens't work well here..and more. Learned a lot.
As i went looking for this shot i re-read the comments - I HAVE come a long way in the past year - now all I want in 2005 is a ribbon!
Ok, a new dSLR and a Ribbon.
Ok Ok, a new dSLR, some lenses and a couple of Ribbons.
Ok, Ok, Ok...

For the Smoke Challenge.
24% - it was decisive and not staged, but a still snapshot any way you cut it.
