The Greenville Phillies were on fire today! The season opener against the Greenville Cubs will go down in our record books as one of our fastest victories...16-1 in 3 innings! I took over 100 pictures, and I was very far away. I had to work my way around looking through the chain link to get anything, and my camera doesn't have a zoom, so this one has been cropped A LOT to get in close. I was so SURPISED to see the ball right there, about to hit our catcher's glove! I know it's not Sports Illustrated, but for moms like me, it's priceless. After cropping, I adjusted the basic levels and added the border in Photoshop.

priceless indeed. Who the hell gives a shot like this a 1? I'm so jaded, I probably would have given a 7 or 8 had I voted.

Nice getting the ball in the picture. Could be a little sharper and I would nix the big border. It takes away from the picute and the eye keeps going to it and not the shot

I like the baseball card border. I also thnk this shot took too much planning/work to be truly serendipity. Great shot though. 10

This is a good shot, but it does not fit the challenge very well. The timing is very good.

Nice stop action. The red boarder seems a little distracting from the action in the photo. Leaving a simple white boarder might have been a little more subtle and less harsh.

That border has got to go.

Perfect action shot! Too bad the umpire's right arm isn't showing motion. The large red border codt you a point.

Nice stop-action photo. I think cropping out the umpire (and the lady behind him) would have focused attention on the "moment" of the ball.

Wow, catching the ball like that takes practice & luck!
Photo is a bit soft, and I definitley don't like the frame. I guess the colour matches the sox & catcher, but they aren't the subject.

very soft...no relation to serendipity

very nice action shot but not sure how this is serendipitous

a great action shot, catching the ball at just that moment. I don't care much for the border though and I wish I could see the batter's face a bit better.

I definitely would have scored this higher without the rather obnoxious red border... whoa...!

How can this be serendipity? if the aim of baseball for the pitcher is to get a strike and he does this through normal means, then how can this be an accidental discovery?

Not sure about relevance to theme.

What's the serendipity aspect?
