Well, it SEEms I can think of many adjectives which end like that (e.g. serpentINE), but in any event know that I only felt qualified to "criticize" your library since mINE is probably older and (SEE!) dustier ...

FORtunately I am very cautious when scavenging in the FORest FOR mushrooms -- there are only a couple of varieties I know "FOR sure" and any others I would consult an expert beFORe trying them. I did go to school (UCSC) with David Aurora, author of some of the best mushroom books around, but we spent most of our time together playing pool or table tennis ...

I wouldn't beGIN to consume wild mushrooms but I love Shiitake mushrooms from the store. However, I do enjoy watching Living Off Grid w/Jake & Nicole who forage for wild edibles and grow their own food.

Mushrooms are good raw but shiitake are better cooked.. never tried them raw. Button shrooms from the MARket are good in salads. I also like the small ones they put in stir fries that look like tiny umbrellas.

You might want to wear glOVEs when you handle Coprinus comatus ("Inky Caps") but it will be worth it when you see the looks on your guests when you serve black cream-of-mushroom soup ... however do NOT serve wine with dinner as it will make everyone sick!

We should be TWIce as careful with harvesting mushrooms as with other wild edibles. When I was a toddler my mother found me walking around with a half-eaten mushroom in my hand. Evidently, it wasn't poisonous but sure gave her a scare.

Yes, mushroom poisoning is terriBLE (causes liver failure), most often caused by Amanita phalloides (a.k.a "Destroying Angel" or "Death Cap") although some species (A. Muscaria) are considered hallucinogenic; not fatal, but not exactly fit for the taBLE either.
