I wouldn't call it so fast. I am seeing an Obama win in my analysis, but it is definitely close. As it stands right now, Ohio has an 84,000 vote difference with only 65% counted (Romney is gaining) and Florida is neck and neck with a 16,000 vote difference at 89% returns. Both favor Obama, but the path to victory for either candidate still runs through Ohio. I am very surprised by PA. Now PA is typically a blue state, but everyone was calling it even and Obama swept it handily. With all the returns right now, Romney still needs Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Florida, and possibly Nevada, because I don't think he is competitive in Colorado. It's a long shot so I think the electoral college will go in Obama's favor but Romney may just well win the popular vote!

If only voting machines were as secure as slot machines. It's telling about how broken your system actually is when gambling is better secured than voting. |
When I voted, I voted with an LED digital voting machine. I selected my ballot options, pressed the cast vote button and thought I had voted. I glanced down at the LED screen which was about 1" high and 4" across and saw that it read "Vote Cancelled". If I hadn't looked down I would have never known. The people at the polling station were helpful but they had not seen anything happen like that before and didn't know for sure if my vote had counted or not either. I did get the issue resolved without trouble
The way I see it is this though, when we had paper ballots and mechanical voting machines, we had hanging chads and over and under votes. With hand written ballots and filling in circles, we have issues with not being able to see which circle was filled in, etc. Whatever the voting system, there has always been issues... |

In California we have paper ballots, and optical scanners. If there are issues or questions on the electronic returns from the scanners there is a paper back up. At the end of voting you have a number you can check your ballot on line to be sure it represents what you meant to vote. In something as important as a vote, a level of redundancy is important, and it keeps the rascals out. As President Reagan said " Trust, but verify." |

I say it every time I buy something for a client, but it was first published in Doubleday in New York in October 1966 |

Fox News just reported Obama with 275 Electoral Votes and another 4 years. Congratulations to the blue team!
From where I sit... I get to wake up tomorrow looking at my one year anniversary of losing my last job, having no prospect for a job and also having been through 3 jobs since 2008 with two 3 month layoffs in between (thats 1.5 years without work in the last 4 years) My Obama presidency has been with NoHope and NoChange. I can't really take another 4 years of this. |

It wouldn't have magically changed under Romney either. |

I truly wish you better times in the next four years Edward, and for me too. The president had a big hole to dig out of right from the get go, and lets hope he can continue to go in the right direction. Don't despair, Romney wasn't going to help you or me. Let's all think positive here :) |

In regional news (with probably a national effect) the voters of Maine have set an example by choosing to legalize gay marriage. |

All four states with ballot measures went in favor of gay marriage.

Heard on Twitter: "Gay marriage is legal in six states. Having sex with a horse is legal in 23"
So it looks like they're trying to balance it by legalizing gay marriage in more states. :P |

I'd heard Washington was leaning, but hadn't heard about the others.
Does this mean that, with Republicans now boycotting lobster, the rest of us will get to see what it tastes like? ;-) |

Well, given his history I can't be sure how sincere he was, but Romney just gave a fine concession speech ΓΆ€” probably the most sensible things I've heard him say since the start of this marathon ... |

Not surprising. He has no reason to be duplicitous anymore. |

That was a good concession speech, he is a better man than the campaign he ran. if he had run as the candidate he was when he left the Massachusetts governorship he probably would not have gotten the primary nod, but he would have won the general election. |

Yes, it was an excellent concession speech. One does wonder how things would have gone had THAT Romney campaigned... |
