I have posted the following apology in my 'Photographers Comments'

An apology

I did the processing on this back in October and entered it here at the last minute without checking back on the original.
Big mistake!

As the positive votes and comments kept coming in I began to have nagging doubts about the validity of my picture.

But I kept putting off checking the original.

I suppose I was in a kind of denial.

It's ironic that another challenge running at the same time was titled "My Drug".

Inevitably retribution caught up with me and I was DQ'd.

Of course the real punishment for me is letting down my fellow DPCers who voted and commented in good faith. Apologies to them.

I'll be more careful in future and in the meantime, congratulations to the new award winners in this challenge.

It's a beautiful picture, regardless of it being DQed, and your words are the words of a good person. I appreciate that a lot! :)

Alright, we hear you. I have these 3 things to say:

1. We will remove the DQ'd image from the juried awards.
2. We will discuss how to redistribute the awards given that we have 3 images that we had originally given 3rd-place prizes to.
3. We will ask SC if they are willing to validate our remaining top-4...

That seem to be a reasonable approach?

Yeah,I agree it is not really a big deal. And I had forgotten there was a special addendum to the challenge to let the general DPC populace know this was a juried challenge, so I can see why some may get upset and feel it was a sanctioned DPC thing. I think these juries are a good thing and a nice change of pace. Perhaps next time around, just state that if an image is Dq'ed it can not be eligible for a jury selection. Hopefully we can run another juried challenge again in a few months.

ETA: I was typing while Robert was posting. Robert, I think this is a reasonable approach indeed. I think having the images validated is not a bad idea, at least for the top choices. Perhaps even a step closer to an official virtual ribbon for the winner's profile. :)

I'll be disappointed if this ends in a resolution without bloodshed. What has become of us? What is left for me to parody any more?? Sad. :P

I'm glad you wrote this, I feel a whole lot better now, we all make mistakes.

One might say you were... hesitant. ;-)

Good on ya for coming clean with a reasonable and understandable explanation. There will be no village burning tonight.

I did find this original, to see what had been been changed. The changes were monstrous.

David, I'll echo the above and say thanks for posting here. I don't think all this 'jury' result chat is anything to do with you or your image - more about precedent?

It truly is a great image and you are no doubt proud of it as you should be. Jeez, I can't remember editing steps from last week let alone last year ;) It's been mentioned a few times in this thread, would you show us the original? I'm pretty sure it was a striking already

Thankyou Bear. That was all I was after! Fairness all around.

As for the image....I truly believe it is a fantastic and very moving image and I am very sorry for your DQ. Thankyou for coming forward and speaking as a true gentleman.

This is what I believe, think, and feel. Wish I'd said it first. :D

we, the jury. This course of action was actively debated in our private thread, and was supported by the majority of jurors.

The jury no longer exists. These decisions now return back to the horde. No one is speaking for me.

Sigh... We keep acting like this and no one will want to be on a jury panel in the future. Sure the extra rules made the juried selection known to the masses but in the end it's not really tied to the "official" dpc. The made up awards are not a permanent fixture to the winners profile. I for one don't see the big deal. Yes follow the rules for dpc and if not lose your ribbon but for a special "prize" does it really matter? I would just hate to see those who volunteer their time to add something extra become weary over this and no longer want to do it.

The red blob has been removed. It was destroyed in a Latin ceremony of heat immolation.

hesitant has now received the full wrath of DPC justice. May God have mercy upon his soul.

You're seeing it now. The way I feel now, that was my last jury. It's not worth it.

I would just hate to see those who abide by the rules miss out because an image that didn't abide by the rules (intentionally or unintentionally) take the ribbon..DPC ribbon or jury ribbon!
