Shanny403 - You've done really well with the body. The trick to the face is once you have it in position, merge the layers into a new layer and use the patch tool to blend the odd areas. Also watch the eyebrow. Decide whether the face layer or upper body layer has the better eyebrows.

I too am playing catch up.

I didn't have any problem with the cat images, but had to restart my child's play and umbrella.
When I edited child's play, I kept messing up on using levels and had a lot of artifacts around the balls. My brush size was smaller than the balls being cloned so I don't understand why it would show the surrounding area.
When I edited umbrellas, I kept messing up the layers (for example, I would be working on the 4th layer, but thinking I was working on the 2nd).
~~Also, on the image I attached, I somehow still messed up the yellow umbrella and can't paint over a section of it on the right. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?~~

Got it to work! Don't know what I was doing wrong.

dianapf1 - Check your brush settings as that may be causing the issues you are having with your cloning. Your border image looks good but I can't see any drop shadow on the other one. Can you try that one again for me please? Your selective desat is very well done. If you are getting confused identifying layers, make sure you are including the colour number on the layer name and maybe include another identifying word like yellow umbrella or something.

dianapf1 - When you have a plain coloured background and a multi coloured subject, it is easier to select the background first, then invert your selection so you then have only the subject as your selection and hit that as a mask. So.....make sure your layer is a raster layer (not background lyer) If it is the background layer, double click on that layer in your layer palette and click OK. This will allow you to make masks on that layer. Select your background using Select/Colour Range (if you need help with that let me know). That will pick up most of the background. Then using magic wand and your lasso tool pick up your other areas of background that you don't want in the end result. Once you have all the background selected, go to Select Inverse(Shft+Ctrl+I) and then hit mask (the little camera icon on the bottom of your layer palette.

As for your Drop Shadow you don't get a B...you get an A!!! YAYYY!!

hihosilver - That would have to be the best result on the umbrella image I have seen yet. You remain at the top of the class.

The body has been stretched sideways. When you are using Free Transform hold the Shift button down whilst dragging the corners and this will keep the image in proportion. Plus the body to head ratio is out...the head is way to small for the rest of the body. Over lay my own to see the comparison. The face is good but room for improvement. Once blended use the patch tool to clean up areas. Good try though.

I thought cutting the frame out would be easier than cutting out the boy, but I am having a harder time with getting the frame to look clean around the edges.

I putting together the main character, and I got the body to look good, but the face.... I'm having such a hard time, there's been some crying and hitting the computer, but still no success.

Judi, Im still back in lesson 1 as I cant seem to upload your cat pictures. (Im so new to all this, sorry) When I click onto the words cat 1 a message comes up saying i am forbidden from entering the DPC tutorials. Any idea what I'm doing wrong.?? I did do the border lesson on one of my own images though.

Maggye - Use the Free Transform Tool (Ctrl+T) to distort just the face (try deleting everything but the head on that layer to give you an easier playing field). When it looks in proportion to the rest of the body mask out the bits you don't want. Decide whether the eyebrows are better from that face or the one below. When you are happy merge the visible layers and use your patch tool to correct the smudgy coloured areas on the cheek etc.

thrumyiis - Okay it appears a select few members are having this issue and I wonder whether IE8 is causing the issue. I have noticed that error on one members computer and they were using IE8. If need be send me an email and I will send the images to you for the lessons.

Yeah Im the same everytime I go to do this I get stuck on not being able to get the images

pamb - Your border is good but can you redo your drop shadow as it is only showing up on the bottom of the image. Your selective desat is very neat...very proud of you. Your cloning job is neat...good work. Great to see you in here girl!!! See you tomorrow for coffee!
