I am most definately a newbie to photography. What I love about this site is that when I enter challenges I cant wait to see what the comments are, and even though they arent great the whole reason I cant wait is so I learn from other people on this site. I love getting comments from photographers on here that I admire immensely and I also get comments from people who are learning like me. This is a world wide school, take advantage of everyones knowledge and learn. |

I think it is about the contest moreso than anything else. Learning is a secondary result of that. |
I'd love to see a few more photography related challenge topics. The majority seem to be to abstract to accurately define. Don't get me wrong, I like the hope and freedom type challenges too, and they center on the creativity, which I like, but I'd still like to see more with use of camera topics to push the education a little more as well. |

i dont like the idea of separate levels at all. i would be bummed if i was restricted from competing against the same people who constantly challenge me to improve myself and my ideas...which is essentially the way i learned photography in the first place. having been here awhile, i have "grown" with a fairly large group of photographers that through a bit of healthy competition, not only have we all--by being forced to examine our strengths and weaknesses--improved our photography and started exploring our own styles, but became great friends, as well. i'm not sure i see the point in messing with a formula that works that well, if you have the gumption to take advantage of it. besides, to me that is what makes DPC what it is.
basically what i am saying is that if i had come into this situation (or any situation, really) and had not been challenged by these awesome people who were/are so much better than me i would probably have left a long time ago, because really, if you arent constantly learning and having fun, what's the point?
if you look around and see people that are better than you--and there will *always* be someone better--don't get discouraged, instead look at it as a great motivation to practice and hope to eventually get as good or better than they are. and stuff. |

Hi Sonifo, I know this is off topic, but I think you can go to your profile settings and adjust the number of posts per page.
Posts Per Page
Min 5. Max 200. Number of replies shown per page when reading a thread.
I hope that helps! |

Exactly! There are many sites on the web where one can post photos for comments, critiques and improvement suggestions. There are also photography sites where one can read lots of theory and tutorials etc. DPC is a contest site and we are primarilly here to do battle with each other :)
Learning is inevitable of course, I learnt a lot here at DPC, but for me learning is just a by-product of competing here. This is a battle ground! man your weapons :))) |

:) Join me! Actually that isn't such a bad idea, introduce some kind of team competitions here. I wonder how we could work that in. |

Hmmmm... I think I need a away to hide my portfolio/ past challenge entries if I'm to stand a chance of finding any willing team members!
:o)
LOL
And yeah, I was one of those always picked last for school sports teams with the exception of hockey because I could whack that ball to the other end of the pitch!

Team comps could be good - they don't even need to be 'officially' supported.
Just needs a thread to register each set of people in a team, and then post weekly average scores for all team members - highest team each challenge wins.
Would need a few ground rules - max size of team, scoring when not all members enter, league table etc but doesn't seem too tough to handle in a spreadsheet 'outwith' the site at least at first.
Any members for the Scottish clan ?

Quite a few scots on here I believe.
On another note - being a true scott are you up on their history?
I heard that all color names originate from Scotland - black - brown - and pink obviously. Is this true?
