I don't regret the picture. I very much like it. I often regret putting stuff out for a vote, though. |

It's your art, an expression of yourself at a moment in time. That's not really something to regret. | HA! |

Your skin used to be tougher before you retired. ;) Don't regret puttining it out there; some of us will be glad you shared with us. |

My Urban landscape sits at 5.31 with 3 wonderful comments - a good image but not an extraordinary one. "A modern classic" as a nice soul commented.
Yes, I will try also to have something better ... in the next challenge. Although "better" is the word that we have to apply ourselves, the public is free and at a different pace of understanding or appreciating an image. |

I put my work out there to share it, not get a grade. No one else may like it, but almost every image you make impacts someone. Don't focus on the people who don't get what it is you do. Think about the people who give you 10's because it means something to them. |

Well, at least you had something (fabulous, I'm sure!) to put out there...I didn't even have that! ::pout:: |

If I just want to share my images I do that in SCs. If I enter a challenge I do it for the score, sometimes for a low one (a sort of artistic image), sometimes high (an image that tends to win a popular vote). I guess in this challenge I wanted my idea of an artistic image to score highly! And now the dilemma is - does my image suck on the artistic side or is the popular vote in this challenge skewed to some strange deviation from normality. I don't know. I will analyze the results with great interest. |

I love my entry and so did all the (non DPC, only cause I don't personally know any) people I showed it to. Funny how people's literal interpretation of the challenge outline can deflate the egos of not only myself but many others who entered going by the comments and the low scores they are receiving.
Then a gem like this comes along and reinvigorates my passion as to why I take pictures and love my hobby.

My score is not doing so well... still sitting at a 4-something. But that's ok. There are some truly amazing photos in this bunch!
I think that everything in here is great. To see the "art" of the people here, their "best shot in their eyes"... It's inspiring, it's insightful, it's telling. I think this is a good challenge, not only because there are so many great photos, but because so many people are showing their souls here.
Voted on all of the images. Commented on 40 so far, only 200 left to go. And I WILL comment on every one of them.
Very well done DPCers!

Well, you know, it started out as a bit of take-off on Margaret's regrets, given that she has what I would consider a pretty darn good score. Wasn't quite sure why she was disappointed with it (or had any regrets) but we all have our own aims and goals, I guess.
I do love sharing my pictures. Otherwise, they'd sit lonely on my hard drive. But this place has a funny way of making you see something differently based on feedback. I was on a phenominal team where all the other photogs are extremely talented and get amazing results, both in real life and here, and I felt a bit out of place at times. Then when I have a shot I really quite like that I think others might enjoy, it can be tough to watch the repeated 5s roll in, which means, quite simply, "eh". Not in a good way, nor in a bad way, just "eh". So for awhile I feel like I let my shots down. But later, long after the challenge has ended, I find I still very much enjoy those mediocre offerings that DPC wasn't very thrilled with.
So my comment of "regret" may have a ring of truth - I don't like to see the "eh" rating, but in the end I still keep entering. My shots are snapshots for the most part, but ones that I do like. And every now and then someone else does, too, and that's a wonderful thing! (Thanks to Janine, who left a fav on my entry - made my day!) And I'm all the way up to a 5.5 now. There's hope yet! :-) |

What exactly is a "eh" rating? I think that varies from person to person. With my score sitting below a 5, I would assume my "eh" would be a 3 or 4? I don't know...
If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it much. You have some amazing talent and are able to capture things in a way others can not.
Don't regret entering the challenges. Just because your photo may not "speak" to everyone, it doesn't mean that you haven't touched a person or two with your shot. If you've created an inspiring shot for just ONE person, if you've made just ONE person think "wow", you've done your job as a photographer. You've captured beauty.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Not everyone likes my images. But some people do. The ones that love them the most, is my family, and myself (how could I ask for more).
I'm just saying, be happy with your entries, whether they place first or last or somewhere in between. You're creating art. Your creating memories. And your displaying your style. Embrace it! Love it. Enjoy it.
:)

Stats: You have rated 241 of 241 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.3900.
almost a full point above my average vote cast, maybe I'm seeing your 'Art'? |

oh, Deb's photography is appreciated by way more than "a person or two", and she knows it (just look at the number of faves she has accumulated) :). I am a big fan.
Why there are many 5's? Because the style of her photos is just not for everybody. To appreciate them you need to spend a little bit of time with them, and I guess it is just too much to ask from everybody :). Unless a photo hits 'em between the eyes, there will always be many who just glance on the photo and move on. On the other hand, they are properly exposed, competently framed photos, so there is no reason to score them low. Hence - 5. Next! |

Good explanation. You said it well. And I'm aware of the fact that she has many people who love her style. I believe some people, even if they took the time to really look at EVERY photo, would still vote below a five on certain images, not matter how accurately a photo is shot/composed/framed/exposed/etc. Like you said, her style (along with everyone else's) is just not for everybody.
And I think that's why I like commenting on every photo in the challenge. It makes me stop to really look at the picture, rather than glance and vote. I'm forced to see imperfections, along with the sheer beauty of a photo.

To Deb: Sorry about triggering you regrets, it was not my intention, I tend to get silly sometimes - l'enfant terrible de DPC! ;) I am sure that NOTHING will stop you from taking and sharing your photos! It is too much fun!
To Danielle: Good grief! You have unlimited energy!! You have brought a lot of life to these forums! :)

I'm just giving back. No one will know how much this place has done for me, not only for photography, but for other purposes in my life. The people here (for the most part) have been absolutely amazing and inspiring. I've seen so much beauty, not just photographically, but in the people here. I know, I know... I sound overdramatic... but that's ok.
I've finally found a place (outside of my home) where I can feel at home.
Thanks guys. :)

Score isn't what I'd hoped, but at least one person loved it! :) Actually all three comments have been very positive so that's good. |
