I don't care about the score on this, i like it and i've had friends ask for a copy of the digital original to do prints from so i know that some people appreciate it. :+)

not sure that's it... i used the 2010 Art challenge as a basis for how much tweaking to apply to my image ... many of the top images then were not photo-turned-painting.

i used a moderate approach and am sitting around 5.4 (off from my earlier 6ish score).

ho-hum...

p.s. maybe this should have been to "create a Classical- or Renaissance-looking image from your photo"... at least that would narrow the genre.

and i do think there are some "standards" for what makes good "art"

and the comments are generally leaning toward "art". Whatever will the jury think? Or will they even think about it at all?

I've never been in a "juried" challenge, so how exactly does this work, with regards to voting and such? Someone care to explain to this newbie :)

Here's the text from the Art Challenge thread in the Challenge suggestions forum. Should give you the basics.

We jurors will vote on the challenge as usual, and we will also each prepare a list of nominations for the juried awards. The nominations will be merged to create a "short list" for awards consideration, and the juried Awards and Honorable Mentions will come from that list. Between the creation of the short list and the voting on it will come a period of discussion amongst the jurors, as we make our cases for the images we prefer. The actual details of how we will "vote" on the short list this time around have not been finalized as yet. It's a little different each year, as the makeup of the juries changes.

R.

ETA. This is sort of a side thing and not connected to the "real" voting in anyway. We will still see a blue, red and yellow ribbon from the "normal" voting and then the jurors will announce separately the winners from their side.

You could check the Fine Art I and Fine Art II challenges, to see the results in practice.

In addition to what salmiakki said: Before voting even begins, the jury share which are their entries with each other to avoid a jury member "wasting" one of their nominations on an image that cannot be selected, and they also agree not to vote each others' images.

Thanks for the input. I wasn't sure, with the whole "ribbon" thing and all (not that mine will place high enough to receive a ribbon).

One exceptionally excellent comment, for which I'm grateful. I expected the below average score. It's okay. I didn't expect my art to be appreciated at 800 pixels.

After my earlier start with a personal worst, I'm kind of disappointed now. So much for calling myself an "artist".

5.3 and disappointed as well. I've turned off for the duration. Good luck to all!

I couldn't find a search field on the Challenge Archives page. How might I see these?
And I'll just say I'm looking forward to this aspect of the challenge, no matter what my personal results may be. A big thank you in advance to those 10 who have agreed to give so generously of their time so we might have this twist.

there's a discussion here along with the juried results of last year's Art Challenge

and NOTE, the juried scores seemed to be quite different than the popular voting... so all of you with low scores now BE ENCOURAGED ;-)

p.s. just noticed the 1st and 2nd place in the Honorable Mentions ... so everyone has a chance!

Thanks for the link (which I don't know how to duplicate here). Very interesting and I really enjoyed reading the jurors' comments. How can I do a search for the challenge itself. There must be an archive search box somewhere :)

Click on Challenges tab, and then Challenge History. Can search for a particular challenge by date, title etc..

The score has steadily risen since this morning. Maybe some people are looking at these images as something that could be hung on a wall and not just a technical tour de force.

You have rated 240 of 240 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 18 images (7%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.2375.

4x 10's and 10x 9's! I don't believe I've ever scored that many >8 in a challenge.

Mines been hovering around the high 9's all day but is starting to fall. I'm still happy with the score considering it was my 6th favourite choice for the year (long story).

Moving in the right direction. The last comment was my only concern about my message with the image. Speed voters will miss it. This is were the judges might pick up peoples message in a image which take a little more time to review and understand.
