You know I was originally joking when I said this - but at current exchange rates it works out at
£2300 in the UK ( £3049 inc 24-105L )
or
£1458 in the US ( £1890 inc 24-105L )
Is it just me - or can anyone else see a small difference ?
Any one come across the pond regularly that want's to carry a small suitcase of Canons ?

The HD feature! would'nt running the sensor for 5 minute videos attract a lot of dust on the sensor, especially doing that over and over? Since i think the sensor attracts more dust when its charged.
I dont know, just asking. |

Jedusi, it's a valid point.
I really want to get one of these as soon as possible (already sold the 40D) but I feel a little cheated paying £2300 when it's soooo much cheaper in the States.
I've even looked into the cost of flying out to NY for a weekend just to get this camera.
I'm wondering if there is a downside though, as it's a new camera if there are any teething problems would I be able to get them sorted by Canon in the UK if it was purchased abroad?
I think bringing back a few would be problematic with customs? But you could probably get away with picking two up and bringing them back in a camera bag as hand luggage (boxes in a suitcase in the hold)
Anyone see a problem with this?
Edit: It may well be a problem getting one reserved as well??

Stick a couple of lenses on the front and they wouldn`t know a thing.. and yes, I reckon you could get a return trip to New York and still save money. ALternatively wait until Focus at Birmingham next Feb/March and see if you can pick up any good deals there - I got my 1d mk3, 24-70 f2.8, 580ex mk2 and 2x Teleconv for a tad under £3k earlier this year.

That's what I would do, even take a few shots with them and leave it on the card in case they're very thorough!
My main problem would be the Canon support and warranty? |

Should be international if you buy from the US. And dnt quote me on it, but David Leung says Canon will pretty much honor any warranty as long as you have proof of purchase (unless you get it from one of those Hong Kong outfits.) |

I heard the constant zooming of a lens without weathersealing, can suck dust into the camera body. |

This would presume that dust can pass through the rear element of the lens, though, I imagine.

None in stock is no big surprise - but I wonder if the proce will alter ? seems about £600 below recommended price. |

Ordered Mine with a Battery Grip + Battery
Its still a Bucket Full Of Dosh, but I thought if I was going to Buy one later. I would have added the Battery Grip to the order, so this was my way into talking myself into buying one !
Hope its worth the wait.

Why couldn't canon have stuck to an increase of only 3-4 extra megapixels for the new 5D? I mean, its not like it's a pro grade camera and I doubt the majority of folk will even see the benefit of those extra megapixels! Do we have to upgrade our computers at the same time as upgrading our cameras as well - how long is it going to take to load those huge files?
And why oh why, do they continue to insist on providing a max of only 3 auto-bracketed exposures!!! Surely, they realise the benefit of having the capability of auto-bracketing 7-9 exposures (nikon provide this!), particularly with regards to HDR imaging and its ever growing popularity!
As much as I'd like to have the outstanding IQ that the new camera will I'm sure provide, there comes a time when the feature set of a camera outweighs what little improvements over IQ another camera is able to provide. I love my current 5D, but in terms of the features I'm looking to upgrade, I'm afraid the D700 is more likely to be residing in my camera bag at the end of next year than the new 5D! It will be with much trepidation when I move over to the dark side, but it's something I feel canon has forced me to do! |

Prices on CF cards have dropped dramatically. Prices of hard drives are constantly dropping. Adobe has announced CS4 has huge performance gains for large files ... and now Canon comes out and soaks it all up with a 21mp camera WITH video!!!
It's a conspiracy, I tell ya!!!

They've given us options: full-res and 2 sRAW sizes - what more do you want?

Woah, there. I'm pretty certain that people will be making income using this camera. I know pleanty of pros who use the 5D and who will use the 5DII when it comes out. I believe that makes it a pro-grade camera.

There are plenty of full-res samples out now - you can go try it out now.

Growing popularity, sure, but I don't imagine that the majority of their users will even use this function. Besides, you can always manually do as many exposures as you want.

Perhaps. I'd say the AF is the most disappointing feature (or lack thereof). But there is obviously a market of users who demand the highest IQ and high-ISO performance and are willing to sacrifice sports capability (huge fps and AF) for it. I am among that market.
