Cloudy sky pictures...

It seems a lot of my challenge images are from very dreary days (a typical hazard in Seattle)

Don't forget... you can always use flash to enchance the subject matter (even more dramatic with a gray background):

I rather enjoy taking photos under such conditions as it does tend to add character to the setting. This is one of my favourites....

Perfect light for shooting portraits. Go ask someone.

A very inspiring thread. I too, have a harder time getting myself out of the house to shoot when the sky is overcast. Thanks all. Any PP tips in bringing out the sky?

Dodging and burning will often bring out textures you didn't notice were there.

You might try masking off the sky and applying separate Curves or Levels adjustments to the sky and foreground elements:

You might also try applying Curves to the individual color channels to change the mood/lighting/effect:

Maybe a new thread should be started for posting outdoor photos shot in weather other than sunny days. It seems that there is a lot of interest in posing them.
Here is one of mine that I like, shot on a rainy afternoon.

T'was a very grey day here today. Don't have to fight harsh shadows... no directional light. As Matthew said, it's one big softbox (or light tent).

I hear Area 51 has some interesting Grays to shoot.

well my mother called me and by the time I got off the phone the sun was pretty much down. This thread has been very inspirational though - keep up with the examples ;)

I only just now saw this. I see you've received a gazillion examples of shooting scenics on gloomy days, which is something I have done a lot of. In no particular order, these come to mind. Some heavily post-processed, some less so...

If I waited for a sunny day to take pictures outside, I wouldn't have very many photos at all during the winter. It's gloomy up here in the North most of the time during the winter. We have seen the sun twice during February.

I think the question should be "is there anything worth shooting on a sunny day?"
I don't bother getting the camera out when the sun is

Go ABOVE the grey...and turn it purple!

Get out with a flash or two, wireless and gray days are the best!
