Yep, it's quite effective.

Cool picture! The cat's head is very clearly on the thirds boundary, and her legs bend inwards nicely at the second third, therefore it would qualify. I'd say if you really wanted to make sure there's no dnmc's, yank the cat forwards a bit and shoot from slightly further away, so that the window ledge is lined up with the second third. But I'm not sure how happy the Princess would be about that :)

Bingo. EVERYONE has certain styles they like. No one is going after those. It's when votes are very high regardless of image subject or quality that things looks weird.

Michelle, don't change a thing. I think you now understand that voting for friends' photos isn't a good idea, so just don't. But don't second-guess your votes for others, either.

The rest of the pictures are quite nicely done too, but I have to say, that was some beautiful editing on the portrait shot. The advantage of shooting things we love.

Since I have no kids, I do well shooting fire spinners instead :)

I am now in "Rule of Thirds". I entered a type of shot that usually doesn't do well with voters but I like it.

I'm also in for Free Study.

My Landscape currently has 23 comments but it's a love/hate thing. They either love it and say so or it kind of freaks them out.

Oh well.

Any patient people in here want to try to explain to me how to make a triptych? I have been playing around on PSP and for the life of me I can't figure it out. I would so appreciate it!

Erm, I'm not sure if this is the best way of doing it, but what I was planning to do was:
-open a 'new' photoshop document, sized 720x720px
-drag and drop the 3 pictures into it, and resize them using free transform (if you hold 'shift' down, it preserves original proportions)
-play around with the rectangular marquee+stroke function to make borders
-fill any empty spaces between pictures using a paint bucket
-trim any remaining empty space

If anyone has a better method, let me know.

Dang it, just spent like 1 hour and a 1/2 setting up and trying to get a shot for Bubbles when I noticed this:

"Sorry, you've already submitted to Rule of Thirds III, another exclusive challenge, so cannot
submit to this one. If you're more interested in submitting to Bubbles II, then you should
unsubmit from Rule of Thirds III and return to this page."

Maybe next time I should read ALL the rules a bit closer, lol.

I just stumbled into a possible rule of thirds shot. Even though I very badly would prefer to enter Bubbles, I have a full day followed by a fun dinner with friends tomorrow. So I suspect I'll be rule of thirds.

And Christian, congrats on your new personal best! Just don't do it three more times. I don't want to have to work hard to find your Monty Python shot!

I've got a truly weird photo in for bubbles. No one will guess it's mine - that is for sure. I could get a 3 or a 6 on it. This is one of those few times I have NO idea how voters will react. My mom loved it. My husband said "cool, but would be better with a concept." I just don't know what to think. This is one on which I hope my fellow suckers will leave some comments after the challenge. It is definitely stretching my envelope.

Ah, triptychs... I shot some stuff on Saturday I thought would be perfect for a triptych! So I tried it. When I do this, I resize all the originals to the same size and dpi, then create a "new" blank document in PS that will hold them all (based on pixel size) and drag and drop. Each picture becomes it's own layer, so if you want to move it, you have to be on that layer. That part gets confusing...

Anyway, here it is - not an outtake since it was shot outside of the challenge time frame, and entirely too "busy" for DPC anyway. Hint - for a successful triptych at DPC sizes, simplicity will probably be a good thing to keep in mind.
