A very rare sight. My wife says that she once skated across the Potomac River, but it's been several years since it froze over.

I took this at the same time as my day 19 shot - I'm standing about 50 feet away and pointed 90 degrees left from that.

You can see the Washington Monument, the Post Office Pavilion (seen on day 4), and the Jefferson Memorial. The little sparkles that look like hot pixels are small chunks of ice sitting on the frozen river.

Of course, we've now had a few days of temperatures in the 40s and 50s, so it might be completely melted by now.

More fun with processing and lighting. Since people seem to appreciate my showing the original, here it is:

Beautiful. The dark sky in the background with the bright white of the memorial and the wonderful light on the snow and river in front...just all adds up to a gorgeous shot.

Great shot, and well processed, though the memorial comes through a little stark, I think (you really notice it if you switch from the original to the processed and back again). I like it when you include the original, it lets me see what things looked like at the start, and compare them. Thanks for that!

The processing makes it look like a big storm is coming! You've really enhanced this photo!

Nice viewpoint, and very nice job with processing. Almost looks like the sun was highlighting the Jefferson Memorial specially.

You did such a great job processing this. It looks like an HDR and it is beautiful!

I think this weekend I'm going to download that software and see if I can get with the new millenium and learn that HDR technique.

This is printworthy! It is GORGESOUS!
