Something I heard yesterday afternoon for real:

"Can I see your press pass?"

LMAO you could market that strategy! ;)

Have you ever encountered the photographer with spider monkey scam? - I used to see them in places like Leicester Square in London. They offer to take your photo with a spider monkey on your shoulder, they take your name and address and £10, and that's the last you ever hear.

I walked into a big highrise the other day with my camera equipment. I had my tipod attached to it and as i walked down the hall at a quick pace, the guard behind me yell after me saying:

"Excuse me sir!!!....Sir!!!! Which company do you represent?"

"None. It's a tripod"

"I didn't have time to get them printed where you suggested, so I used the inst-printer at wal-mart"

"I didn't want to take them were you suggested, but I have a $50 photo printer at home. I just did them there."

Why do you carry around all of that stuff? My pocket-cam takes great pictures and it was on sale!

(I love well-meant advice, but c'mon!)

Q. Cor, that's a big lens you've got there. Does it have Macro on it? You know for close ups of small things?

A. Drop your pants and we'll see if it goes as far as microscopic!!

"We're having you do the media shots in the hallway."
(Hallway is narrow, bad fluorescent lighting.)

Aaahh, then you must be a professional. You will definitely need to get a letter from Karma to have them printed at Wal-Mart.
;)

"Your still taking pictures, so how many rolls of film have you used?"
I say "It's digital, I fill the memory card with as many as I want"

they say "Oh them digitals are nice aren't they, I have one of those nikons at home"

"Will you take some photos of my junk to put on ebay"

Ok this one is something I said and I wished I would of thought about it before I said it, ok don't hate me, this was before I got my first digital about 5 years ago.
The photographer kept touching me and my son, fixing a collar, pulling on a shirt, patting a hair, adjusting my rings and putting my fingers straighter,
so I ask, "Do you work with dead people, cuz I know someone who does makeup on them and they do a lot of adjusting like this...."

Doh! I totally wished I had my sinces cuz I realized he was doing his job paying attention to detail so the portrait would turn out nice.

This was said to me in the past year, "Stan, Year's ago I tried to be a photographer, but I finally had to admit to myself that some of us just aren't 'cut-out' to be photographers."

Don't worry...It wasn't anyone on this website. It was a "local friend" in my town, but you've got to admit that the thoughts "Yeah!" & "Amen!" danced across your brain when you read it, right?

However, I still expect to be successful as a photographer, and when I am, you can mark it down that it's not because I'm a natural at the technical aspects of photography, but because I have a God-given ability to capture unique moments (i.e. a sense of timing) as well as the God-given longsuffering to get there.

In a Word,...I'm not hanging on to photography. Photography is hanging on to me. It's a passion! I know you understand! :)

It was still bad form for him to touch you or your son without permission. Asking you to make the correction would have likely produced the same results without the uncomfortableness. I would say that was the proper thing to say to that photographer.

Walmart: "Are you a professional?"

Me: "Not really."

Walmart: "Then we need proof that these are your pictures. Do you have the CD or card you brought them in on?"

Me: "No, I uploaded them via the Internet, last night."

Walmart: "We need proof that you are the photographer."

Me: "So, if I bring in a letter saying that I have permission to print my pictures, we can avoid this."

Walmart: "Yes."

Me: "I need to bring in a letter that says, "Karma Shuford has the right to make prints from these files. Signed, Karma Shuford"

Walmart: "Yes. And it needs to be on letterhead."

(And I know they are doing their jobs, and "protecting" the photographer, but the systems they have in place to do this are assinine and ineffective, and time consuming.)

This SUCKS! I hate this system. That's why I don't get prints at wally-world anymore.
