I love this one....

Person 1:"How many pictures can you get on that?"
Person 2:"With this card about 200."
Person 1:"I got me one of them that uses a floppy, I can get 600 pictures on one floppy. Maybe you should get one of those instead."

not to a photographer, but an actual conversation when I was selling cameras.

Customer:"I am looking for a small digital that will fit into my shirt pocket."
Me (AKA Salesperson):"Well, we have a number of compact digitals"
Customer:"I want one that writes to a floppy."
Me:"How big is your pocket?"

More of a compliment to you than an argument, but your highest scoring images are with a D60 and a Powershot G2.

and features of both those cameras mattered to making those shots.

I couldn't have done a long enough exposure with the G2 to shoot the painting with light shot the way I did.

I couldn't have got the D60 into such an extreme position and framed it, but I could with the G2 and the flip out LCD.

That's like complimenting the chef after dining by saying, " That was a delicious meal, you must have great pots and pans."

Or congratulating Michael Schumacher on all those grand prix wins and saying 'you must have a great car!'

Oh, but the car does matter. Hmm. Maybe the camera does too. and the pots and pans.

I HATE THAT ONE!!! Heard it several times.

Me too! That one is a HUGE pet peeve!!!

I didn't read through the entire thread, but my typical response to this one (because it was my #1 peeve comment):

"Thank you. This camera does take some really good pictures, that's why I chose it. It also takes really bad pictures...depending on who's using the camera."

I recently went to a lab for some small prints , the girl asked me if the files were 300 dpi , I told her that the size of all the files was 3456x2304 px and that it was enough for small prints , her answer was that I needed MILLIONS of pixels not 3.000 pixels !

Walmart: "Are you a professional?"

Me: "Not really."

Walmart: "Then we need proof that these are your pictures. Do you have the CD or card you brought them in on?"

Me: "No, I uploaded them via the Internet, last night."

Walmart: "We need proof that you are the photographer."

Me: "So, if I bring in a letter saying that I have permission to print my pictures, we can avoid this."

Walmart: "Yes."

Me: "I need to bring in a letter that says, "Karma Shuford has the right to make prints from these files. Signed, Karma Shuford"

Walmart: "Yes. And it needs to be on letterhead."

(And I know they are doing their jobs, and "protecting" the photographer, but the systems they have in place to do this are assinine and ineffective, and time consuming.)

This SUCKS! I hate this system. That's why I don't get prints at wally-world anymore.

The photographer kept touching me and my son, fixing a collar, pulling on a shirt, patting a hair, adjusting my rings and putting my fingers straighter,
so I ask, "Do you work with dead people, cuz I know someone who does makeup on them and they do a lot of adjusting like this...."

Doh! I totally wished I had my sinces cuz I realized he was doing his job paying attention to detail so the portrait would turn out nice.

It was still bad form for him to touch you or your son without permission. Asking you to make the correction would have likely produced the same results without the uncomfortableness. I would say that was the proper thing to say to that photographer.

This was said to me in the past year, "Stan, Year's ago I tried to be a photographer, but I finally had to admit to myself that some of us just aren't 'cut-out' to be photographers."

Don't worry...It wasn't anyone on this website. It was a "local friend" in my town, but you've got to admit that the thoughts "Yeah!" & "Amen!" danced across your brain when you read it, right?

However, I still expect to be successful as a photographer, and when I am, you can mark it down that it's not because I'm a natural at the technical aspects of photography, but because I have a God-given ability to capture unique moments (i.e. a sense of timing) as well as the God-given longsuffering to get there.

In a Word,...I'm not hanging on to photography. Photography is hanging on to me. It's a passion! I know you understand! :)

"Your still taking pictures, so how many rolls of film have you used?"
I say "It's digital, I fill the memory card with as many as I want"

they say "Oh them digitals are nice aren't they, I have one of those nikons at home"

"Will you take some photos of my junk to put on ebay"

Aaahh, then you must be a professional. You will definitely need to get a letter from Karma to have them printed at Wal-Mart.

Q. Cor, that's a big lens you've got there. Does it have Macro on it? You know for close ups of small things?

A. Drop your pants and we'll see if it goes as far as microscopic!!

Why do you carry around all of that stuff? My pocket-cam takes great pictures and it was on sale!

(I love well-meant advice, but c'mon!)

"I didn't have time to get them printed where you suggested, so I used the inst-printer at wal-mart"

"I didn't want to take them were you suggested, but I have a $50 photo printer at home. I just did them there."
