Do most non-photogs even know what a big white lens is? Or do they think a big black lens is better? (and please keep your minds out of the gutter, I didn't intend the question to be read that way :-)

Said to me by a sister in law and my brother....I was so insulted.

Yep, also by my sister-in-law.

I just got this one on the way home from work today. They recently changed the traffic pattern in town by making the main road around the park a one way rotary. Now all the truck traffic has to go around these three really tight, sharp turns. Today one got stuck, wheels in the air, container tipped almost to the point of tip-over, drive wheels also in the air. The cops had a detour. I parked my truck in the Williams Inn parking lot and walked across the street with my camera and started walking in the park to the other side to get pics when of course one of the local idiots..I mean boys in blue walks up to me:

Cop: You work for a paper or TV station?
Me: No.
Cop: You a professional photographer?
Me: No.
Cop: Guess not with that toy (said in a very sarcastic tone) you have there. Sorry - no pictures today. Maybe when you are a real photographer.

Had the 20D with the 75-300 mounted.

I got this one last night when shooting some local pics:
Male: What kind of camera is that?
Me: It's a Canon Rebel XT.
Male: What lens do you have on it?
Me: A 70-300 mm.
Male: Really? Hmmm....I have that same lens at home....but mine's BIGGER!

Nephew: Think you can come take pictures at the hospital of the newborn baby.
Me: Yeah, it'd be my pleasure, no charge of course, I will just give you the c.d. and you can get them developed yourself.
Nephew: Cool, thanks.
Me: Should I bring some stuffed animals and stuff.
Nephew: Nah, its not your pictures I like so much, its what you do with them afterwards. (post processing)

....and then I post processed it. LOL

Model to photographer: I'll be there at 11 a.m. Friday.

Friday comes model calls after 4 pm

Model to photographer: I got soooo wasted last night and just got up. Do you still want to shoot today?

Sometimes I swear I should start shooting still lifes and product shots.

Photographer to model: Sure, but I have to run down to the store for some ammo first...

I hate it too!!! makes me a bit angry!

Yes, but, if our photos don't improve with our camera upgrades, what's the point?

sometimes I get the same thing, though it varies to something like "wow those are great photos, what camera are you using?"

actually, it's quite the opposite. I have non-photog friends and relatives, and their opinion is, new technology makes things compact - so if you have big lens and big bodies, they'd probably think you are using antiques (while they drool over slim and sexy ultra compacts) doh!

On Saturday night, we met friends at a nice restaurant on the water. I, of course, brought my camera. All the women were going on and on about how they needed to buy the ''biggest camera they could find'' and added; "I heard that Canon makes a good camera, what do YOU think?"
I love my answer:
"Gee, you have a beautiful, big stove. I bet you are a great cook!"
They kinda shut up after that...
Just thought I'd share.

I'd like to suggest an answer to this and similar comments from the "uninformed"....
Just say, "Really!?"

If you are alone now, practice out loud in as many tones of voice and inflection as you can think of....raise your eyebrows and say it...scrinch up your nose and say it...look incredulous and say it...look slightly angry and say it.... See what happens to the way it comes out! You may never need to say anything more than "really" again! (Trust me, it works!)

I like "Really? You mean I've been doing it wrong all this time?"

Right after I took this picture, this guy whipped out his weenie...shook it at me and growled "take a f***in picture of the this motherf***er"

I did think that that was a very nice thing to say to a photographer.
