Well chosen, Yanko.

I just cannot resist presenting my laborious way to the wrong choice:

Anchorman is the original envelope and definition pushing entry that I withdrew, whereas
Solveig's song was taken too late and you would have to be familiar with the last act of Peer Gynt to understand it anyway.

I suspect that this one, and almost certainly this one, would have scored a lot higher than this:

Regrets?

I've had a few

but then again...

I actually really like the last one.

Yeah that was originally the one I had planned to enter but then at the last second thought the closer up version would score better.

I got back from holidays less than 24 hours before this challenge closed for voting so I had to rush through some images to choose one.

Here is the one I chose and the original to show that there wasnt much done to the image.

Entry Kooka-Bokeh

Original Kooka-Bokeh

During the challenge I was going trhough my holiday images and kicked myself when I found this image. I spoke of it in a thread and said I would upload it after the challenge was finished.

The Butterfly

And here are the other images I was trying to choose between.

This was my outtake. I think it is better than the entry but I had to clone out a very bright element in it so I could not use it for a Basic Challenge.

Here is the entry:

What do yo think?

I like the entry image a lot better. Much better perspective. The eyes aren't in very good focus in the outtake. Not easy photographing the smaller red dragonflies. They seem very elusive compared to the other kinds. Good job :)

I think you did pick the right one, though the others are great too.

I may have made the incorrect choice. Started out in the forested ravine with ferns, then came out into the meadow...butterflies EVERYWHERE! Couldn't resist.

Here's my outtakes:

...and what my entry was.

Feedback, as always, is greatly appreciated. ;^)

That's a terrific shot of the fritillary. Apart from the tropical hues, this is very similar indeed to the blue ribbon winner.

It may be a little confusing, if one thinks that the bokeh, at least in the context of the challenge, is more important than (or at least as important as) the subject that it complements. It's not the sort of thinking that gets results.

Composition-wise, you've got the front edge of the wings, the body and the head all dangerously close to central axes. If there's not more available to be included top and/or right, then maybe a little cutting away of the flower would help a bit...

The fern shots are lovely. Sometimes they look as though they need a butterfly?

outtakes: had a hard time choosing which color to use. i felt i had the liberty to choose any since my bokeh had the abstract "feel" to it

my entry did not fair very well. perhaps not the voters' type. (ahh. takes a deep breath and walks away :(

My favorite of the outtakes. I remember when I first saw your entry in the challenge, I thought for a moment that it was a hairclip. Sorry.
But it was a well photographed one!! ha
I gave it high marks.

Peter (raish) - Thanks for the feedback.

The butterfly outtake is presented in original context...meaning I didn't crop or adjust the composition. You are correct on the subject being nearly centered and agree with your take on needed adjustment. Had the eyes and head area been a bit sharper I probably would have used this image in place of my entry.

Regarding the fern shots, I did have one with a fly on it that was kind of fun. I'll have to see if I kept it. ;^)

Thanks again.

I like this one the best as for bokeh adding to the impact. If the highlights weren't quite so hot I would say this should have been the choice. As it is, I think you probably picked correctly (meaning I like your entry shot also).
