Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Bokeh II (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Canon EOS-20D
Lens: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Location: Austin, Texas
Date: Jun 17, 2006
Aperture: f/4.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/125
Galleries: Portraiture, Animals
Date Uploaded: Jun 18, 2006

Editing steps:

- Raw conversion (custom white balance temperature ~ 3200K).
- Shadow/Highlights
- Noise Ninja
- Curves (manual adjustments per channel)
- Hue/Saturation
- Selective Color
- Color Balance
- Smart Sharpen
- Unsharp Mask
- Save for Web

ETA: I wanted to add that the reason for the 3200K white balance adjustment in RAW was to provide the greatest color contrast with the foreground and background. That way I could desaturate the background without losing the color in the subject.

Okay, typically I like chickens. I really like all barnyard animals. They are so cool! But this one is really rather ugly. No, he's really ugly.

Hi Richard-

First, I love the sense of humor you injected into the title, refreshing after seeing so many arguments about what bokeh is and is not. It seems like a rather appropriate response to all the hullaboo, no? Excellent detail on the rooster, and I like that the color pops against the gray background. Nice work!

This was one of my favs. I love the title, and the grey bokeh background makes the guy really 'pop'. The ligthing on the rooster is great; the feather detail really nice. I like the way his beak is open, so that you can hear him saying "Cock-a-bokeh-do".
Nice Job!

Love the cockiness of this fellow. Marvelous colours too. Boke a bit muted but there none-the-less. 10.

Oh god, this is wonderful. SO unexpected. When that poultry face popped up, I almost spit out my coffee. And you even got him with his mouth open. GREAT title too. ROFL Unusual and certainly not the expected shot. Bravo. 10
