Sherryl - Congratulations on a fine placing with your image. As for the outtakes - I like the original the best. The second outtake (third image in your posting) is too tight IMO.

Smile and keep having fun! ;^)

Those are all wonderful, but I think the one you entered was a perfect pick.
specialk. There are tutorials in the learn section that teach you how to do selective desat for basic. I know you are trying to learn as much as you can and you are new to the site, but please stop being so gruff. This is a fine community and most everyone wants to be helpful. People help nice people and oppose those people that they feel are not nice. Just a basic human relationship concept.
Sorry. Back to those beautiful flowers. I love how much you've advanced in the last few months, Sheryl. It's like you have bloomed in front of us.

I hate to be repetitive, but I too, loved your original and gave you a 10! And, I also like the square crop and will take that as a favorite. Keep shooting with that new Macro! :)

I am very disappointed in my Bokeh shot. I thought it was dabomb when I took it after about 80 shots and different angles, lighting, etc. I thought I had accomplished it all by providing the balls of light in front and in back of the subject. I thought stacking the bugs would give it interest. I thought the title was dabomb to. I thought the background was interesting. On all levels I thought I had given my best considering what all the discussion was about both for and against what bokeh meant and didn't mean to most.

Some thought so, but some didn't. Sherpet actually gave me a comment that said the subject was uninteresting. At first I was angered by that and almost said so on her Bokeh comment thread, but you know what? I decided to sit back and just eat the comment. I am glad I did because when looking back now Sherpet was right. Now that I look at it again, it is uninteresting especially up against the other entries I saw in the challenge. The colors were drab. The shot was ok technically and the balls of light and the background interesting but as a whole the composition lacks any punch.

Thankfully it didn't do to much damage to my overall average so far. Being just my third entry I have time to recoup but this is how you live and learn on DPC! All the flower shots in my portfolio were actually done before deadline and I could have changed the shot and scored higher. Why I didn't? Because I had spent to much time on what I thought was a fabulous entry. Ya just nevah know! lol.

(I'm having a blast with my macro filters to Sherpet! lol and congrats on your placement in Bokeh!)

First of all, Sherpet, I loved your orchid. It was stunning! I gave you a 10.

The posts before the challenge were quite confusing. Some said it was the background one way, others argued it was supposed to be another way. I am sooo confused! Here is my original entry. (I went with the ''little points of light" because after doing some research, that seemed to be the way to go....

Here are my outtakes of what I believe to be bokeh. But, after seeing all the entries, I wish I had gone with my gut feelings and entered one of these:

This was the one I almost entered, but because of all the discussion in the forums, I decided to enter my original. (wish I had listened to myself for once! Ha!)
Which one would YOU have entered??

I gave you a 9 for your entry. I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was in a lawn chair at a resort and being asked to choose a cool drink by the waiter. I much prefer that shot over the others.

I gave a LOT of high marks in this challenge. I think I gave Sherpet an 8, but for 9's I think I gave out about 30 or so and a bunch of 8's, 7's, 6's. My lowest score given at all times is a 5 anyway. I think I gave out four 10's but it was hard choosing which ones. :)

The heron looks a little soft. I think you made the correct choice with the IR image, even though I'm not an IR fan. ;^)

Your IR shot was a little soft also. Is something going on with your settings?

It's funny, your heron shot is very similar to what I was looking for. Last trip to the river fishing they were all over the place. So, I made a special early morning trip, positioned myself at the river (in camo gear nonetheless) with the sun rising on the far bank...not a single heron in sight!!!

Selective color, and virtually any other color/hue adjustment, is allowed in basic as long as it is applied over the whole image.

I like the color satured outtake the best. It's a really pretty flower with great blues.

I too have an outtake to post.

The outtake does have those now infamous Bokeh circles many voters where looking for but I just didn't like the overall photo as much as the non setup shot. I was in a "I'm so sick of setup" shots mood that whole week, not everyone's just my own. But am happy with what I posted. But, was just itching to clone out that top branch.

That's an easy non-decision! Correct choice made for sure. ;^)

I entered this:

Although it got a bit hammered, i got a bit more practise reversing the old 50mm. THe bug was only about 4mm long and the grasshopper must have been about 1mm (!).
Here was an out-take, I decided the reflection of the flash was a tad too harsh:
