levels to tone down over-the-top white in the water lower left (no, really, even more over-the-top than it is now).
The shot is actually hand-held and, in a moment of distraction, taken in aperture priority mode. I wish I had the time to go back and run about a hundred quick-fire outtakes from the same spot off a tripod (what with those midges mocing around so), but there we are - this is chosen from 4 or 5. I prefered it to other subjects because it's so 'absolute bokeh', for better or for worse.

I could not see the point in this until I read Judi's comment. Once you see the insects in focus it makes sense, but as you say yourself, it is a pity you did not have a tripod. Good luck.

Hmmm...I see you got hammered in the voting...I feel bad. The voters didn't look closer to see the subject...but on the other hand it isn't entirely there fault. The restricted size on this site adds to the problem. But not to worries. I gave you a 7 because of the fantastic bokeh you captured. The insects were definitely there but as many have stated during the voting...a main subject needs to basically hit the viewers in the face. It is sad to have to do that as it restricts the photographers creativity...but not to worries. Treat DPC as a client...but don't let it control your entire creativity.

It's not my favourite pic. And it has quite a few flaws that preclude it from being a very high scoring shot composition doesn't feel balanced enough, and those little insects? in the foreground are distracting). But at least it showed a good understanding of bokeh and how to use it.

I don't understand why people think there has to be something in sharp focus for this challenge. It's not a DOF challenge, it was bokeh - and the bokeh should be the emphasis. Doesn't matter if there is something in the foreground or not, provided the bokeh is interesting...

Not enough in focus here. Bokeh is a blurry background the enhances an in focus subject. Looks like if it were in focus the exposure would have been good as well as your colors and contrast.

This hurts my eyes to look at it.

I like the light on the water, but I think something should be in focus. Better luck next time!

The challenge was to take a photo whose subject is enhanced by the bokeh of the background...here I do not see a subject at all. Im sorry but this photo is too blurred/out of focus to be able to really tell what Im looking at.

Excellent bokeh but I cannot see any main subject for it to enhance. Or is it the little spots. Looking at this further I think I can see what you have captured....just wish we could use bigger images to be able to see little surprises such as in this photo. 7 anyway.

It was very hard to see, which subject is in focus

Perhaps a bit too much "Bokeh". I cannot discern one clearly identifiable item in this image. Good luck with the challenge.

Highlights are too blown out for me.

This needs a stronger foreground subject to complete the image. The bokeh is good but doesn't make a great image.
