Every single time I show my mom a photo that isn't just a boring plain snapshot, she goes "Oh...well that's (disconcerting pause) different."
Ouch. |

Put it on a card for her birthday. But be ready with the camera to get her reaction! |

Don't you just hate it? It drives me crazy, like I'm not expected to improve or do anything interesting. |

LOL, yeah it truly irks me. And, I'm 33 y/o and have been working as a photographer for 15+ years... and still no respect...
I think she thinks I should have a "REAL" job. Yuck!

I'm in the same boat. My mom thinks its just a hobby and that i can't and won't ever make any money. Little does she know that in the 15 yrs I've been doing this its paid for all my equipment and then some.

THAT much for a CD of images? Why? It doesn't cost you anything.
Can you e-mail me the digital file? I just want to use it for my screensaver?
JOHNNY!!! LOOK AT THE PHOTOGRAPHER!!! (uh...mom...YOU'RE distracting the kid)
You're a photographer? My friend/sister/husband/etc. has fun taking pictures. You should see their stuff...it's the most beautiful stuff I've seen. They are sooo talented (in a tone that lets you know that you have got to be inferior in quality...it doesn't even matter!) |

Are you kidding? This is the one and only reason I even bother with Myspace. Most of my random messages are from guys who want to hook up with anything with breasts living within 50 miles. And they're usually 10 years younger than me.

Walmart: "Are you a professional?"
Me: "Not really."
Walmart: "Then we need proof that these are your pictures. Do you have the CD or card you brought them in on?"
Me: "No, I uploaded them via the Internet, last night."
Walmart: "We need proof that you are the photographer."
Me: "So, if I bring in a letter saying that I have permission to print my pictures, we can avoid this."
Walmart: "Yes."
Me: "I need to bring in a letter that says, "Karma Shuford has the right to make prints from these files. Signed, Karma Shuford"
Walmart: "Yes. And it needs to be on letterhead."
(And I know they are doing their jobs, and "protecting" the photographer, but the systems they have in place to do this are assinine and ineffective, and time consuming.) |
Sorry this response is slightly off-topic, but you have to watch out for those folks. I took some film in years ago after a concert and when I picked it up I noticed that the numbers on the back started with 37, 38, 39. . .
They had made a duplicate set. Boy, I had that store by the you-know-whats. I got free processing and a formal apology, in addition to the clerk losing her job. |

" You don't have a right to take my picture! I'm in a public place and I know my rights!"
Happened at a Pagan Witch gathering I was covering for the paper.
If she knew her rights she would know being in a public place I can take her picture. For arguments sake I deleted the pic for her. Didn't want to be turned into a toad or anything. No offense to any Pagans or witches out there.

You've got to learn to be sly about swapping memory cards ;-) Then show her a card that your camera says no images available. Haven't used the feature on my 300D, but I used to be real good at hiding photos on my CoolPix 8700 :-)

I can top that - I didn't even post a picture here, just posted a possible score on a pic and was told it was 'literally impossible for me to take a picture that would score that high.' Now if that isn't a slap in the face. The score was not unachievable in reality. But I guess in my reality, to this person, it is. Made me feel like crap to the point that I am questioning if I want to renew my membership which is 20 days and counting to expire. |
