Nothing will put a smile on your face faster than knowing you have THE shot. I've had a few that I thought were contenders, but I knew this one was a blue before I even got it off the camera. Hoo yeah!

Weird how it's the exact opposite with me... But then again, I love all my "out of box" shots.

I've found that those are the ones which score about 3.8 |

oh - i have plenty of 'out of the box' type -[cue portfolio]
& to me, they have a different feel to them -
i'm talking about ones that make you feel as though you ARE good,
you are NOT wasting your time/money on a silly hobby, and gives you that bursting sense of pride in your 'work'.
They are also the images you are compelled to share....

I get the feeling like I've captured lighting in a bottle. Skill certainly is important with this hobby, but there is that element of luck; being in the right place, clicking at the exact right moment. There are times where you know instantly that you have something special. You don't even need to look at the thumbnail. There are other times where you have to craft the picture into something special through repetition or post-processing. Those are satisfying too, but not in the same way. |

I'm more with GeneralE on this topic... my highest scoring photo
was the one I took while driving, through the windshield, holding the d60 with 70-200f2.8 in one hand, taking a shot twice on manual mode to correct the exposure based on the histogram of the first one... (and I was not looking through the viewfinder either time).
All other submissions were thought thru. Tells you something about my thinking...

I've had a few moments like that, but unfortunately none of them have been with "challenge" photos! At least not until recently - this coming week may break that streak for me... teehee
<--- fingers crossed |

I knew these three would do well.
But there were a couple others I've submitted that I knew would do well too... and they didn't. |

These were the types of images that I looked at over and over again on my LCD and knew they were the right ones.
