played with chroma a bit (yellows desat to fix color temp , greens sat to push marbles)
bit o curves , usm

reminds me of the ray tracing program POVray

made a distorted lined (36" wide) backdrop with photoshop + printed on a wide plotter, 3 marbles, and a glass(crystal) ball ..
oh & a junked light/layout table that i restored this week ;) so all the light comes from the bottom - super diffused & no obvious direction

submit,crop,submit,crop....

chances of anyone understanding the image ..0..

postchallenge: oops - guess people did understand ;) thankyou

a couple of other notes on HOW-TO:the paper was against a clear sheet of plastic bent in a C shape (you see the curve in the image) and the view in the ball is of most of the background almost upto 270deg .. otherwise you would see aspects of the room and edges of the paper ...

Impressive creativity and thanks for the pp explanation.
11/04/2006 01:12:23 PM
I think the design would work better for me without the green balls.

This photo is amazing. I would like to try this one day when I have the right materials. I am going to put your image into my favourites and I hope that when I grow up I can take a photo like this.

Excellent technique: clarity, dof. Elements of design: first class. Well done.
09/17/2005 10:23:03 AM
Vracking, original image. Kind of reminds me of a larva lamp something. Well done and good luck with this. I thikn the green adds a nice splash of colour and the composision is nice too.
09/16/2005 08:48:38 PM
I like the imaginitive idea, the lighting on the green balls, the swirly black on the larger ball and the lines at the bottom front are also good. I think the dirty smudgy grey on white at top back of image really destroys this photo.
09/16/2005 07:50:10 PM
Wow! Quite the unusual image. (10)
09/16/2005 07:02:57 PM
i love the bold clean look and the reflections are really fun to explore.
09/16/2005 02:19:51 PM

Wow, Must be the blue ribbon... must be... must be (sorry but I haven't been right yet)
09/15/2005 07:17:07 PM
Phenominal! Top 5 at least.
09/15/2005 04:13:57 PM
Excellent , i think this is gonna be blue ribbon. I can't even imagine how you made it
09/15/2005 03:54:11 PM
Very cool. Love the lines the reflection and just amazing focus. Sharp Sharp Sharp.
09/15/2005 02:47:36 AM
Outstanding image...straight to my favourites.
09/14/2005 08:54:27 PM
Love it. The perspective is just so interesting and looking at this picture entertains me. How'd you do that? It's very nicely done. :D
09/14/2005 08:48:18 PM
Wow that's really cool. I love it.
09/14/2005 11:40:29 AM
If I didn't know better I would say it was a render. Nice and smooth; the glow on the green balls adds to it nicely
09/14/2005 10:43:39 AM
Just beautiful! Congratulations
09/14/2005 10:02:41 AM
This is excellent. ;Ok, I'm picking this as the winner. SOOO unusual. The lime just stands outamidst the stripes of black and white. I like that the circule seems a bit opaque. GREAT Man, I'm so happy to see this amidst the other 500 crappy ones. GOOD ONE 10 10 10
09/14/2005 08:05:06 AM
Very impressive graphic quality-the reflections in marble is very effective
09/14/2005 02:50:12 AM
what is that? nice shot
09/14/2005 02:32:49 AM
What is it. I like it.
09/14/2005 12:54:32 AM
Very cool. I'm assuming the ball is glass.
