Challenge: Pink (Advanced Editing IV)
Camera: Olympus C-750UZ
Location: At home in the dark
Date: Feb 4, 2005
Aperture: 7.0
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1
Galleries: Nature, Floral
Date Uploaded: Feb 1, 2005

Set up the single tulip in a vase in the dark bathroom with a dark blue fleece coat hanging behind it. Hand held a very narrow and bright light source so that it was aimed into the flower. Exposure was set at 1 second. Moved the light source and lit the leaves for just a fraction of a second at the end of the exposure.

Cloned out a couple bits of stem and leaf. Dodged the stem lightly. Cropped and added border.

Later:
Yay, I'm really pleased with a 5th place on this! Sorry that some people didn't think it looked pink. I don't really know what to say about that since it looked the same in real life as it does on my monitor, and that is pink.

A couple outtakes:

I can't get over the simplicity and beauty of this shot. Love the colors. I would have made the border smaller, but thats just me.

just amazing, I had it picked for a ribbon - which seems to be the kiss of death. Sorry I picked it now, aren't you?

The lighting is just terrific, and it just feels calm. I NEED that. Thank you for a great entry.

Great shot!!! Where in the world do those 1, 2 and 3 scores come from? I think the border patrol maybe? Kudos to you!

Excellent composition, love the lighting and colors. Makes me look forward to spring again (while heavy rain and hail is hammering the windows).

And that's how you take pictures of flowers! Very nice. Bold color with the dark background contrast. The blossom look like a lantern:)

I like this composition, right to the point! Yes, the lighting is perfect on this shot. I'll need to take some pointers from you here, hope you have a nice description on the lighting. Superb shot!

the photo is gorgeous! But I don't really find it to answer the challenge.
The color of the tulip here is more orange or peach then pink, and the glow only enhances the yelow.
Yet, since I realy liked this photo I gave you a 7.

Composition is fantastic - even the border adds instead of detracts. I gave you a (9), but only because this does not look pink on my screen as 99% of the other shots in the challenge do. This is definitely a shot to be proud of, and I hope it does well.

beautifull light on a not quite pink flower. great shot that would do better outside this challenge where it must be PINK.

I absolutely love the lighting in the photo and the contrast provided by the background. The photo is perfect in every regard, but for the fact that pink does not seem to be the prevailing colour. It is with regret that I must inform you that I only gave this a 9. Great shot and the best of luck in the challenge.

I have to say that this photo is just awesome in my opinion. The lighting is superb -- especially, as your title suggests, the light coming from within. The composition and framing is simple and beautiful. There's just one little problem, and that is that I see no pink in the shot whatsoever! It's a gorgeous shade of peach, leaning heavily to the orange/red side, with some obvious golden yellow at the bottom of the bud, but no pink anywhere. I checked this shot on two other monitors, by the way, because it would rate a 10 without question if I could see some pink in it, but no luck. I'm still going to give it a 6 because it's so good, and add it to my favorites, if that's any consolation.

Great shot, but I would have liked to see more of the stem where it attaches the petals, but that is my preference. Love the glow behind the yellow on the petals.
