I just wanted to let everyone know how excited I was about this next challenge, because the photo I took I consider to be one of my best non-sports photos EVER! I say this because I primarily shoot sports for my college newspaper and yearbook, and I consider that to be my forte. But I love this site and this challenge truly inspired me to take this photo, which I prolly never would have taken otherwise! I think it's awesome :-). Even if I don't do well in this challenge, I will feel proud of my photo, no matter what! Of course I am REALLY REALLY excited about the voting starting very soon! Anyway... now that I'm done saying that I was curious, and wanted to pose this question...

--- Have any of the challenges really inspired you to take a great photo, say a set up one, that you might never have taken if it wasn't for this site? If so, which one? Even if the photo did terribly in the contests, I'd like to see which ones people really thought were inspired photos possibly more for personal reasons!? Anyway... I'm just curious and wanted to get everyone talking about something photography related that a lot of people can participate in. Also I think it might help the site administrators, by letting them know which challenges we really enjoyed! ----

OK so there you go all! Look forward to reading your answers to my question! Maybe we should have a question of the day in forums? Just a suggestion. Good luck everyone with this weeks results, and next weeks entries! I look forward to seeing what everyone else came up with for the song title challenge :-)

I enjoyed Free Study (the first one c. July 2002) where I placed 2nd with "Panache".. I know it wasn't a defined challenge.. but it allowed me to really express myself.
:0)

And congrats! Feels great to take a shot you are so proud of, doesn't it?

i often set up shots ... but one of my favorites, where i feel i was actually creative (for a change) is my bad hair day submission to the shadow challenge. it's probably also the one that i took the most photos (over two days) off to get it right ...

I think my three most "inspired" photos are
Priceless... from the Advertising challenge,
What Color Is YOUR Shadow? from the Shadows challenge, and
That's PROFESSOR Airhead To You! from the Transparency challenge.
Although my entry for No Hand Of Man (my best score) was maybe my most inspired cropping (more than planning)...
The Professor is the only one planned out in advance, where I purchased materials and sought a specific location...the others took about 20-30 minutes to plan, organize the kids, and shoot.

I think my favorite challenge was TEXTUREbecause it was that challenge that something clicked and I really began to look at things differently. (Note, I didn't do that great there, but given another chance, look out! hahahaha)

Of all the pictures I've submitted, the ones I like best are my entries for FEAR, SOMETHING NEW, andBLUE because in each of those I was able to "pre-visualize" what I wanted the picture to look like, and then get the desired effect. Unfortunately, most of the time I get an "idea," but have no idea what it will look like until I am done.

great question!!

My most inspired so far is actually the one I'm submitting this week for the song title contest. My most staged and tweaked shoot has been my Macro entry. I took over 150 photo's before getting what I saw in my minds eye. This site always gets me looking at normal objects in a new way.

I am proud of most of my entries. There aren't many of them though. This site has taught me more in photography then I ever imagined. Two photos that I felt the most pride for was the occupations and body parts competitions.

I really enjoyed the pencil challenge, which was one of my first challenges. ALL the challenges though have gotten me to take pics of things I wouldn't normally take pics of. Pre-DPC, the only thing I really took pics of were my son, and events. Typical snapshots.
I think the challenge that probably got the most people that would normally NOT take a pic of...was the Garbage challenge. I couldn't think of a creative shot, so I skipped that one.

I really enjoyed doing the 'Reflections without mirrors' challenge. It really made me think about what I could do. I wouldn't have normally taken a shot of something in my bathroom, but I did. I also wanted to create a diferent shot and make it my own unique idea. I had heaps of fun playing around with this one.Reflection

Hmm, just flicked back through my entries and I don't think I'm truely happy with any of them. They all have redeeming features which is why I entered them, but I think in every single one I can find things I would rather have done differently to improve them, or would do differently now given the chance again.

Waiting for Bats is probably the one that is closest to what I wanted, but I'd still like to go back and re-shoot it.

I think the photo that I would never have taken if it wasn't for DPC was my Occupations photo which placed 4th. I never do shots like that and it was very against my normal style (which is set up objects on a solid background normally). I also hate being in front of a camera, and being a self portrait I really didn't want to do it, but come Sunday night and I had nothing to submit I though... "Ahhh go for it!".

Despite coming 4th here with my best score ever, and getting PoTD at dpcontest, I still don't really like it that much, but I guess it will grow on me :)

I think the photo I am most happy with is Strike from the negative space challenge, even though it didn't do very well. It was very hard for me to do because my old fuji camera had to auto focus, and focusing on a match very quickly before i burnt my fingers was very hard. Also due to the low light i had to keep very still, as this was before I had a tripod. I was exrtemly happy with the way it came out.

I´m very sure I had never taken my winning shot this week if it hadn´t been for the challenge. If people ask you to take their portrait you mostly do it as you usually do. But here you must be CREATIVE and that´s good because you try hard to come up with something new.

If it weren't for DPC I don't know if I would ever have started taking 'set up' shots, so most of my entries would never have been taken. This site has been one big learning experience.

My favourite entry is Hotwired. Even though I knew exactly what I was going to shoot the second I saw the challenge I spent a lot of time masking off & bouncing light around so that the whole scene was well lit, but the glowing tracks & heatsink still stood out. Like I said - one big learning experience.

This week I'm feeling totally uninspired, which is criminal given that there's several thousand 12" singles sat just behind me. I'll just have to blame next week's scores on being ill ; )

My most inspired entry is probably Seven Years of Bad Luck sor the Superstitions and Urban Legends challenge. I neve would have taken the time to shoot something like that.

I also liked Daddy's Shiny New Toy / Don't Tell Mommy because it took so long to get it right ... finally figured out that I had to take the shot in the shade because the sun was creating annoying sparkles on the club.

Just about all of my photos on this site were inspired by the challenge topics. I don't 'fit' photos to the challenges. I shoot photos specifically for the challenges.

Forbidden Fruit
Steam Power
Queen's Gambit

These three photos are probably my personal favorites that I have used here. The Queen's Gambit photo 'evolved' out of my original idea for the "Upside Down" challenge. I started shooting with an entirely different idea and ended up with this...

I like my Budget Moonlanding a lot, unlike some here! It reviewed spankingly on photo.net. They seem to appreciate abstract stuff a little more over there.
