I did a search in challenge Suggestions on this subject and could not find anything.

Maybe I'm just not using the search function correctly? :)

I find cemeteries interesting.

I have no idea how I would go about taking a photo for a cemetery challenge, but I think it would be fun to try.

Like them myself. Live in an old town with a grand old cemetery. Have a collection of black and white prints in a portfolio from it. Also, the city of Cleveland has Lakeview Cemetery. It has fantastic old tombs as well as President Garfields monument at the center of it and Elliot Ness' marker as attractions. And I do mean attractions. For five years the cemetery was opened as an art gallery with a variety of display ranging from neon lights to sculptures, scattered throughout the cemetery. This shot is an entry from "Fill the Frame" challenge taken at Lakeview.

Forgot to add: Lakeview Cemetery even has picnic tables set up around their small lake. Our motorcycle group gathered there for a meeting and a picnic!!! At the same time there was a memorial service going on in the chapel. Despite these activities there is still an air of deep respect and solemnity. It is a unique, old cemetery.

thanks everyone!

drydoc, the same is true for the cemetery here. it's common to see a family having a picnic on a blanket spread beneath a massive oak tree dripping with Spanish moss, the local bicycle club riding through the narrow streets and people jogging with their dogs. there are quite a few antique roses, camellias and crepe myrtles and some of the most beautiful ironwork i've ever seen. some people find it a bit ghoulish that i spend so much time there but i just love it. a very peaceful place.

sher, glad to hear someone else get turned on by a visit to the cemetery! Ghoulish? Never even entered my mind. Have taken many a motorcyle trip top Lakeview and spen hours there with my cameras (digital and print). One visit was total dedicated to Civil War markers. Another was dedicated to mausoleums. The marble art work along with the weathering make for some interesting displays.

BTW, can you imagine the looks and comments I got when I planned the ride to the cemetery? To say nothing of the looks we got when the bikes rolled in!

I'm a cemetery fan. They are very inspiring. There is one not far from where I live, and I make regular trips, and always find something new to take photos of.

Sher's got some awesome stuff, yup. But up here on Cape Cod there's more gravestones than people, by far... I'd love to do a challenge on graveyards...

Yes there are! We went there last summer and I was just blown away by that. I did get some good shots at one graveyard, it was kinda in the middle of no where. we were hiking through the woods on unmarked trails and kinda just come one it, the front gate had rusted off. it was kinda erie it felt like no one had been there for years
