Then there's this guy, Kjell Sandved, recently featured in The New York State Conservationist. Talk about specializing! See his "Butterfly Wing Alphabet" here. (You can google him for other interesting references, as well.)

These alphabet galleries that have been posted here are nice.

Is everyone interested in turning this into a 'dual' project where we produce a photo of an object representing your letter as well as a literal representation of the letter itself? We could do both...

I think a 'dual' project is an excellent idea. Both approaches should garner great interest.

Probably pretty partial to people like me, picked to picture popular letters like "P"! (One of these alphabets had a "Padlock" for "P.") But poor, poor, thatcloudthere! He may ask to be X-cused!

If it's a duel with a dual project.

I'll include this addition in the email I'm sending out soon. I'm still waiting on responses from a few people.

In a loud outdoor voice, I say 'yes'.

Edit: ...wait, do you mean two different projects or one project, killing two birds with one stone (example of P being padlock and p-shaped)?

Either way, it's quite a challenge and I'd give it a try...

It would be two separate projects using the same photographers.

I have updated the project document to reflect this and I will send it out to everyone as soon as I have everyone's email addresses.

Oh! Then, yes! Nothing to object to there!

:P (And now I have an excuse to use a "P" in my emoticon's, too!)

Thanks for the opportunity, John!

I'll have to come up with the photo size we need for it also...

Would we have two separate posters, one for each of the approaches? In that case I would assume the photos would be the same size as orginally spec'd.

No... The sizes won't be the same. The photo I need for the alphabet soup project will but put on the 'block' that I posted early in this thread along with the letter and the photographer's name/location.

The photo size I will need for "A Picture Alphabet" will be:

2.75" wide by 4.5" high @ 300dpi

BLACK AND WHITE :)

That's an interesting take on the letter. My point, however, was that if we had to shoot both something that began with the letter and also make it look like the letter in the same photo, then it might be difficult for those already difficult letters. P is for padlock and appears like a p is possible--but what do you do with a letter like x...xenophobic?

I was thinking of a way to have blood trickling out of someone's nose/mouth in the shape of an X to cover off both bases...xenomenia.

I'm glad that it will be two seperate projects so I can use 100% creativity in both respects rather than sacrificing substance in order to make sure the photo meets both requirements...

So a "Picture Alphabet" will be B&W, cool. Are there any restrictions on the "Alphabet soup" project or can it be color, B&W, Sepia, etc.....?
