Sweet, I won the xylophone for $10 CAD on e-bay! I'm in baby, I'm in...

Those of you who are working on this project may want to put it on the back burner briefly.

The response I have received from those who have volunteered has been very weak at this point. With 10 days left until the initial deadline, I have only received about 1/5 of the photos required to complete the project.

It's very time consuming for me to chase people down and beg for photos that they volunteered to do. I'm going to wait until January 31 to determine whether or not this project will go to completion. If I have received 75% of the required photos by that time, I will pursue replacing the volunteers who have dropped out. I sent out a reminder email to everyone on this project last week, so everyone should be aware of it at this point.

Anyone want to buy a xylophone?

hehe...just kidding...

John, this project is an awesome concept (as are the others you've launched), and a great service to the participants on this website. I, for one, am committed to having my photos delivered to you by the deadline - and will.

I sincerely hope this doesn't have to be abandoned. If there's anything any of us can do to lighten your load, let us know. Maybe it would help if you gave each of us who've returned the signed form one or more of the names/email addresses of those who have NOT done so. It could then be our responsibility to remind them (or find out if they wish to drop out), and report status back to you.

All that build-up and then you go discouraging him again! : )

I should be able to get pictures in this weekend.

I sent out reminders already and I will do so again in a few days. I'm more interested in chasing down the 50-state flag project than this one. I would love to see both completed, but I'm more interested in the other one.

Here's what I will do...

I will send out another reminder on January 25. The people who have not sent me photos by January 31 will be replaced by another set of volunteers. I have only had one person to officially drop out at this point. I asked people who didn't plan to complete their photos to let me know and one person has. A second person has asked for more time, but there are 26 people involved and I have only received feedback on dropping out and extensions from two of them.

We'll see how it goes...

Just sent my shot!

Both of my shots have been sent also, as of this morning. I hope this Project gets to finish, it is a really neat idea and think you have done a great job getting it put together.

I got it...

I now have 9 out of the 52 photos required to complete the project with less than 10 days to go.

Please tell me what you think. My letter is "P"--though I hope that's obvious. ;-)

How can these be better--or will they "do"?

For the B&W letter shape:

And a pair of pears:

I love them both...

I think the paintbrush and can is genius and looks great in black and white.

I think the pears are great...simple, elegant looking and perfect for this project!

Very nice!

Ok. Will do. But first, I hope I've got them sized correctly.

For the color alphabet: 2.75" x 3" at 300 dpi -- compression?
For the B&W alphabet: 2.75" x 4.5" at 300 dpi -- compression?

(I uploaded with the highest possible compression.)

Can we send you TIFF files, with or without LZW compression? That will save one level of JPEG loss.

Here's where we stand with one week to go:

I will be sending out another reminder on this project today....

Would anyone like to share their opinions on the following shots for the Letter N?

This is the one I'm entering for the Thing: Nail

And these are some of my takes on the letter itself. Do they suck? Is one better than the others? Should I keep looking or reprocess them?

Thanks for taking a peek. :-)

I love the simplicity of the third N...but how does the required aspect ratio affect the crop of that photo?
01/25/2005 07:09:08 PM · #220
Awww Crud... I forgot that one had a different crop ratio than the other.... Well, back to the drawing board. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. ;-)

If it's any help I like the coil ... subtle and different. Don't forget you can still use them for other things!
01/25/2005 08:24:56 PM · #222
Alright, reworked them. Think I'm leaning towards the electrical tower as the coil (candle holder) is a little too fuzzy for my tastes although I like it better to represent the letter. :-)

They are both very good. I wonder if you clone out the bottom part of the tower N, if it would make it a little better? I liked the first one you posted with the wrong aspect ration, that didn't have anything on the bottom. And the coil is a little fuzzy, but it is also a great representation of the letter. Is there a chance you could reshoot it, to make it less fuzzy?

How is this for the T object? Tomatoes on the vine.

01/25/2005 10:39:12 PM · #225
Mark, your tomatoes look great to me.

I'm working on "S". I like this "Snow Slide", but I believe this version looks too busy. What do you think?
