Thanks for all the comments. Woo hoo, my first top ten finish! Regarding some of the comments: I also wanted the entire stop sign in the photo, but unfortunately, there was a street sing on top of the stop sign which really distracted from the shot. I felt it was better to crop off the top than to leave on the sign. A copy of the original shot can be seen here...

If I could have selectively desaturated, I would have removed red everywhere except for the sign. Lastly, this was taken at a paper mill. I don't know for sure if the stuff coming out is steam or not, but I highly doubt it as it stinks of sulfur and can be smelled for miles. regardless, that's not the point. This is not about this one particular paper mill, or paper mills in general. This is meant to be more of a symbolic reflection upon the waste and pollution which is deposited into our ecosphere with rapidly accelerating abandon. It's merely my own personal statement reflecting my opinions about man's propensity to destroy his own environment.

Thanks again to all who commented. The time you took to share your thoughts was greatly appreciated!

Interesting feel to this photo. Raw, rough. You succeeded in achieving that effect. The super fresh banner really demands my attention - kind of takes away from the humanity street sign. Not sure what the purpose of the biker is. 6 md

Colors are a bit washed out, everything seems a little tilted. Subject of photo does little for me. Power/phone lines really distract from the image. 3 md

Poor focus and cropping really hurt this image. Hard to read the whole sign, difficult to generate interest in the subject of this photo. 3 md

Nice catch. Good clarity on the plane. If the plane could somehow be positioned in the image a little lower and to the right, that might help the oerall composition. Nice entry. 7 md

A nice clarity and colors. Nice use of a little negative space. Good Composition, though I think having the sign a bit to the right and up just a little might have improved the balance of the shot. All in all though, nice entry. 7 md

Very nice composition. B&W works well here. Good use of border. The more I have looked at this, the more I like it. May be a bit too much contrast though as the details of the lamp post get a bit lost in the darkness. A very nice entry - good job! 8 md

Red Rock, Red Stop

The red sign against the red of the rock and the blue of the sky create a nice effect. The colors seem a tad oversaturated for my liking, but still very attractive. Positioning of the sign seems a bit off - maybe higher and to the right just a bit might have helped. Very nice how the sign post gets lost against the rock - makes it seem as if it is floating. Nice photo, good job. 7 md
