Welded on - Day 10by slaaksoComment: Wow, that old nut has a great deal of character. The swoosh on the right is a catchy curve |

Ropeby ShutterPugComment: Great detail with a generous DOF. The right side of the rope is flirting with harsh light but that's ok since my favorite part is on the top left where you can see under and between the rope strands. |

Macro Day 12by socalsteveComment: The side lighting creates a really interesting negative space border. If it was possible to diffuse the light on the leading left edge to keep it from blowing out I think it would be all the more captivating. Hard to do I know. This is a really cool image regardless. |

Paw Paw - Day 11by sherpetComment: The seed detail is good and the texture feels slimy. Nice job getting us into the fruit. |

Scroll blended with coin (RGB included)by JMartComment: Originally posted by geoffb: Very cool look. The edges are quite defined compared to the original image, so I'm guessing you sharpened a fair bit.
Nice! |
Surprisingly, after blending I didn't do anything except merge, resize, and save to web. Blending is producing very unexpected results so far, but I imagine more practice makes results more predictable. |

_MG_2837-Edit-Edit-4.jpgby cpanaiotiComment: Wow, this is my favorite of these variations. They're all very surreal. This one does the best job of tricking my eyes regading which parts belong to which layers.
Thanks for starting such an interesting topic. |

Drill Impactby JMartComment: Originally posted by hajeka: Please continue with the experiments. It's so nice and sharp. Just wondering at what speed you made this photo. Did you use a flash? |
For this shot the drill bit was going at a slow 500rpm and the SB-600 flash was at 1/16 power. I believe the shutter was around 1/20 with the aperature at 22 (any less was just too shallow DOF) but I didn't pay much attention to the shutter since the flash was freezing the motion.
I tried a few with the drill going 1500 rpm, but it was too difficult to catch the first moment hitting the wood. Although, the faster speeds did result in more shavings flying around. Here's the drill at 1500 rpm:
