This took a few tries. Just had to time the impact of the drill with the shutter. This makes me want to experiment with other materials as the month progresses.

I find the subject very interesting, and the grain in the wood is neat so up close.

I like the stop motion here and the tearing of the, is it maple? Great use of DOF and shutter speed to get a great effect. Bob Villa might be coming to your home next. lol!

Good Idea! Might try that with my lathe and catch some chips flying. Great job with the lighting too.

For this shot the drill bit was going at a slow 500rpm and the SB-600 flash was at 1/16 power. I believe the shutter was around 1/20 with the aperature at 22 (any less was just too shallow DOF) but I didn't pay much attention to the shutter since the flash was freezing the motion.

I tried a few with the drill going 1500 rpm, but it was too difficult to catch the first moment hitting the wood. Although, the faster speeds did result in more shavings flying around. Here's the drill at 1500 rpm:

Nice shot. Glad you kept at it, was worth the effort. I thought you stopped the drill to take the shot at first but then I noticed the flying chips and went woah. Great work, can't wait to see more action macro shots.
