Tool of Self Expressionby DJLubaComment: Lovely shot, and I have a weakness for the 64-67 vettes. Not too sure about the background clutter, but I know there's nothing you can do about it. Well done! |

Untitledby JC_HomolaComment: Where'd all the detail go? It looks like this image is suffering from too much NeatImage. I like the composition but it's not a really exciting image to me. |

Measuring Upby CraigDComment: Cute idea, not a wonderful image tho. A bit more light on the guy would have helped. |

flower clusterby shutterflyComment: Lovely lovely image. I didn't see it during voting. Too bad! It's made my favorites list - even though I think cropping the bottom would make it a stronger image. Great job! |

Convergenceby mbardeenComment: Thanks for the great comments and votes. I would have liked to get closer, but this is an almost 1 to 1 crop. The picture was taken by turning my teleconverter backwards (thanks for the idea Jillz!), taping the feather to one end and taking a picture through the other, using the 60w bulb as a backlight.
So... No I can't get much closer and the DOF issues were totally out of my control - (my f-stop was at 8.0, the max for my camera.)

Contrasting Cattleby jas0420Comment: Greets from the Critique Club:
Hi Jason,
This is a very good picture for contrasts. First you have the contrast in the colour of the cattle, then you have the contrasting shapes of their horns. Good find!
Now, to the technical aspects: The crop is good, as is the post processing. My only wish is to see a little bit better exposure on the white bull. It seems a little blown out and some of the detail has been lost. Apart from that, I wouldn't change a thing with the photo.
Good Job!

Zenby mbardeenComment: Thanks for the great comments!
I thought of a better title for this about three days after I submitted - "Time & Space". Oh well.. I'm happy with its placement.

p.s. Jason, it's about 2ft high and about 18 years old. The clovers are about 5 days old. Message edited by author 2003-07-28 13:16:27. |

Hidden Foundationsby eloiseComment: Eloise,
This picture could have been better with a miniumum of post processing. First, a crop is definitely in order. The trash and the little bit of the work area flag in this picture are much more distracting than losing the base of the of the structure. Also, I'm not convinced of the need for color here. There are many distinct textures present, but the color feels washed out. Perhaps a bit more contrast and/or a conversion to B&W would help?
These are all things you should think about before the submission stage. Sit down and look at your picture carefully. Think about what's needed in the shot and what isn't. Setzler gave this bit of advice - go through your picture with a fine tooth comb and ask yourself "why" about each of the elements. If you can't answer that question, you need to think about if that element is really necessary.
I hope this makes sense and best of luck in future challenges!
