The American love affair with the automobile is undeniable. Cars are part utility and part luxury. They are meant to keep our families safe, thrill us when we have the urge, and recreate us on weekends. Cars are used as status symbols, class equalizers, and ultimately as a tool of self-expression.

I shot this photo this past weekend at the Annual Corvettes at Carlisle Auto show. Thousands of people filled the fair grounds for three days to do nothing else but show their love for this American Automotive Icon.

Technical details: Just enjoy the photo!

There is, of course, the idea of a vehicle being a tool for transporting people from one place to another. In my opinion a tool is anything humans use that is not built into our bodies. It's amazing how many people narrowly define words when there are all sorts of other meanings. I bet the people that did not consider this a tool would gladly label a forklift or tractor a tool. *sigh*

Needless to say, this is a great shot of a tool.

I wanted to take the opportunity to include the following for the folks who didn't quit take the 4 to 5 seconds to think about the photo and how it fits the challenge.

Main Entry: [2]tool
Date: 1812
transitive senses
1 a : to cause (a vehicle) to go : DRIVE b : to convey in a vehicle
2 : to shape, form, or finish with a tool; especially : to letter or ornament (as leather or gold) by means of hand tools
3 : to equip (as a plant or industry) with tools, machines, and instruments for production
intransitive senses
1 : DRIVE, RIDE
2 : to equip a plant or industry with the means (as machines, machine tools, and instruments) of production — often used with up

I have often responded to people, when asked, what did you do last night? "Oh -- I just tool'd around."

Good creative shot for the challenge. There's story here which is lacking in quite a few of the shots in this challenge.

Awesome pic, but doesn't really work for the challenge.

I like the shot and the sky. Only drawback is that it took me a few seconds to identify what was in the picture. Maybe if the shot were angle differently while keeping the sky reflections and the flag visible...

nice shoot.

Lovely shot, and I have a weakness for the 64-67 vettes. Not too sure about the background clutter, but I know there's nothing you can do about it. Well done!

cool shot. the atmospheric element, the flag, the other vette, good composition and lighting. the angle adds interest as well as the close up. nice work.

In my opinion, this does meets the challenge.

This is a superb shot of a car, but I do not consider cars to be tools. The reflections are really nice. Great contrast and clarity. Nice composition and crop. But this is IMO not a tool.

I would have liked to see the whole rear of the car...nice reflection

Very nice reflections, but not sure this says "tools" to me.

I think you should have taken this from a bit lower and got rid of the background stuff, which I find rather distracting.

Shiny!
